You can spray it with bleach yourself or have a carpenter rip it out and replace it. If it's deadly black mold that's another story. (not likely) You would have to hire a mold abatement company.

Before you go and do what the other answers where. Be sure to protect all carpeting furniture clothing etc from that bleach. They are correct in the bleach method. However you will need to dilute it with water. A 30% bleach to water is good to start. We use a 50-50 blend. Spray it on then wait about 2 hrs. Then repeat.

If you are concerned if it is hazordous mold hire a testing company that does not remove it. That way you know your not getting ripped off. Their are allot of ripoff artists in the mold and asbestos abatement business .

clean it with some bleach and see if you can remove the trim around the window to see if it's underneath that also. you may have to caulk the outside of the window to prevent the moisture from getting in again

ABOVE A WINDOW,YOU MIGHT NEED A ROOFER. WATER CAUSES MOST MOLD PROBLEMS WHICH COULD BE COMING IN FROM EITHER THE ROOF OR EVES. OF COURSE YOU COULD USE A GENERAL CONTRACTOR.WISH YOU LUCK.
