Hello,
I too went through this stage.
It took several years to except what life throw my way.
I thought of what I liked to do before I got messed up. I went back to my houseplants, got back out my crafts and do them on good days. Big movie/music buff.
I tried the online group thing but never been into this kind of thing so.....
If your mother would just think of what she liked to do before she had kids, family, work, and got messed up (and if she is like us not much income coming in anymore. Disability is not that much) she might be able to remember something that made her happy.
Be ready for a bought of depression. This is a new life your mother has been thrown into, not wanting to be. I feel it is like a death in the family and we need time to grieve for the "old life" we miss so dearly.
I wish your mother well.

She could try:
1.) Scrapbooks
2.) joining a gym (there are things there that might help her with her disability, as well as relaxing, and feeling better about herself (tanning, water aerobics, jacuzzi, steam room, etc.)
3.) She could try making candles at home that she could sell to make herself some extra money.
4.) she could go back to school (taking courses online), and see if she could find a job that she could do from home.
5.) If she likes arts and crafts, she could try to start painting, do pottery, make crafts, needlework, etc.
6.) She could find some books at the library, if she enjoys reading.

Well, idk where u live, but in the bay area there are senior centers. They play pool, play on computers, have gym equp., go to the casino once a wk in a group..$12.00 a year to join.
Call Social Services in your area...and see what they have goin on in yr community....They should certianally have info for human resourses for seniors.

I learned to play guitar and speak Spanish. I do tons of volunteer work for our church and read anything I can get my hands on. I love to read. I'm 57 yrs old and I've NEVER been bored. God has blessed me.
