I have my athletes do this all the time. Sometimes i have them run almost 3 miles when you add the strides and warm up sprints i make them do.
Sprinters think they are going to get tired, but the truth is- sprints are short events and the muscles you use in sprinting are different than the ones you use during a long run- well some are the same, but they are being used differently. (short twitch/ fast twitch). Yes you are working different muscles but your body is still getting warm and you are still beginning to sweat. Thats the more important thing. You should warm up your fast/ slow twich muscles with strides/ accelerators and things like that. I cant stress that the warm up is for the entire body, not just the legs.

The purpose of the 2 mile run is so you can get your blood flowing, your heart rate up and get your body warm.

I used to be skeptical of this logic when i was in high school, but i noticed if i didnt warm up with a long run, i would feel cold....especially on indoor tracks because there is no sun to help you get warm.

Just remember that you need to be hot and breathing hard when you are at the start line.

I'd say it's a great warmup. Understand that the stress on a sprinter's body is very compressed in time. In other words. it's all out, then stop. If your muscles aren't warmed up and loose, then you run a big chance of pulling a muscle. Just don't forget to stretch before and after the warmup.

Good Luck

A half mile should do for a sprinter, along with stretching and a dynamic warm-up with skipping, strides, cross-overs, etc to warm and stretch the sprinting muscles. You may even add several 20-40m accelerators. Good Luck.

2 miles is a good warm up for any runner, sprinter and distance alike. but not continuous. my team runs a mile than stretches than another mile and more stretches as a warm up. however 2 miles does take a bit of time, and if sprinters are going to be doing extra warm ups such as form exercises, stides ect. than it may just be a bit time consuming. but remember warm ups arent supposed to be hard and tireing, so dont run hard for those 2 miles

ya sure it will build endurance but for how long 100 meters? I mean really I think a mile is good enough

I spirnted last year and I like to do strecthing instead of running around the track 8 times

Absolutley not. It will help build endurance. I think this is a beginning of the season thing, I don't understand why you would continue all season.
