The majority or dominant group is always allowed to be offended. If a radio talk show host called a team of white players a bunch of "crackers" do you think he would be fired? but if a group of blacks are called "nappy headed ho's" he is made out to be a disgusting horrible human being. I agree both are wrong to say, but one is viewed with alot more scrutiny. Christians ( I am one) sometimes bring it on them selves. We should not force anybody into believing what we believe, but at the same time we should be allowed to practice our religion even if it offends somebody. They are allowed to teach evolution and the big bang in school, when there is NOT 100% proof and it is debated by scientist from Harvard to Oxford. Yet the very mention of God gets a teacher fired!?!? It would be nice if everybody was treated equally but that will never happen, for christians or non-christians, whites or blacks, gay or straight. Somebody will always be offended by something somebody else says or does.

At least where I'm at everyone is free to be offended and there is no right to not be offended. Which is why I can't recall when I was last offended by something or someone unless of course you include really bad smells.

But things that are said? I can't even conceive of what someone could say that would offend me. In fact please someone give it their best shot. Maybe I'm wrong...

I actually don't think people are as offended as some claim. People use phrases like "Didn't mean to offend you..." as a way of simply belittling someone else differing opinion.

For instance Diane M just wrote
"In the 1950's, Christian prayer was common in schools. (A bad idea, I agree.) Atheists were offended. It was removed."

It had nothing to do with being 'offended' that's simply a way of belittling what she doesn't agree with.

In the 1950's, Christian prayer was common in schools. (A bad idea, I agree.) Atheists were offended. It was removed.

At San Jose State University back in the 1990's, one teacher was offended that spring break was always tied to Easter. The rules were changed so that they now deliberately avoid Easter.

One atheist in California was offended that his daughter had to recite the Pledge of Allegiance in school and was allowed to bring a lawsuit about it.

Where do you get the idea that only Christians are allowed to be offended?

Christians live in a society that is fast becoming almost completely secular. Christians (Biblical Christians - not the commercial lukewarm version in many of the churches on TV.) are standing in the way of a 'me first', 'do as you please', 'we are animals anyway', 'every man for himself', blood thirsty, perverted, 'truth is only relative' type society. This has become the new status quo. But, history has warned us of the demise for such a national entity.

Christians are repeating this warning and, people don't want to hear it. They only want to hear what sounds good at the moment while they are doing what ever they are doing. Even the churches are teaching this 'feel good' sermon. They have even gone as far as to make laws against things as harmless as a personal prayer in public. The name of God has even become repulsive to many people in our country. Yet, they don't mind when He's on their money. That's because a lot of Americans only worship the gods of their pocket books and stomachs.

It is said that in most countries, prison is where society sends most of its failures. Yet, in America society itself is failing. You see, people in our country live by a pleasure principle. They are 'mad on their idols' just as were the ancient Babylonians. These things are all that matter to a lot of people unfortunately. They are becoming like the creatures from the theory of evolution forced upon our children in school. 'Survival of the fittest', huh? I wouldn't wish it upon anyone but, a great many people are in for a rude awakening.

To put it in plainly: "If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first. If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you. If I had not come and spoken to them, they would not be guilty of sin. Now, however, they have no excuse for their sin. He who hates me hates my Father as well. John 15:18-19, 22-23.

People (Christians included) simply need to thicken their skin a little. Our society has been so brow-beaten with political correctness and tolerance that we're turning into a society of spineless, convictionless, wimps.

How is that even remotely true? People offend me all the time. Everyone is offended at something.

Christian is such a freely used word, many use that cover, however, it is most difficult to offend a dead man.

People get offended when they feel threatened.

Rational thought threatens Christianity.

It not only threatens it... it destroys it.

Therefore, Christians get offended when rational people talk within earshot of them.

And then you get to hear them explain why the rational people are blasphemous, and will be punished eternally in hell.

It really is quite funny to us rational folks. Seriously... it is.

Everyone is constantly offended. We all get fair chances to be regularly offended, sue, and protest.
