For a start, coffee is legal at any age! But on the other hand, why would you let a child drink coffee loaded with caffeine? Here in Australia it is legal to drink alcohol at 18 yrs of age.Pity really, as those little twerps don't have half a brain till they're 25-30! Edit: Catherine P, your government is anything but stupid. I know, for we pay the price here in Australia by letting teenagers drink alcohol. There are so many road deaths, acts of violence by people in the younger age groups. Many of our sporting stars are in trouble with their clubs & the law because of the abuse of alcohol & drugs. It's just a fact of life that you can't trust most teenagers with alcohol. The frightening thing i've noticed is that today they start on the strongest of liquor such as Vodka etc instead of becoming accustomed to lighter ones right from their first drink. Like I said they can't be trusted to make the right decisions.

because the govt is stupid. MOST countries besides the US are under 21... generally 18 and often even less than that. i think theres 2 other countries (and think how many countries there are) with the age 21 besides us. And generally parents dont let kids drink coffee/soda when they're younger, at least mine didnt. obviously it has less of an affect than alcohol but as far as the whole stunt your growth thing it's stupid alcohol should be allowed at 16 or so that works best for other countries!!!

Coffee has cafiene which is a mild stimulant which will not affect you as alcohol (a depressant) might.

Coffee will not make you crash your car, cause you to get into fights or cause you to act real wild, crazy or even stupid the way alcohol can.

Alcohol is too powerful and you need the extra life experience to adjust to it. Alcohol can land you in jail in a hurry, Coffee won't.

Plus teenagers are usually already "nutty" enough we don't need them drinking alcohol making matter worse. lol!

Because Caffine isn't alcohol, and if that was a law you'd have to be 21 to drink any caffinated beverage. Alcohol affects people in a dangerous way, unlike caffine.
