You do realize how historically they came about right? Obviously not since you ask this question.
A man requested an audience with the Vatican after travelling from his home. He walked in with a detailed map of how the chorus of angels worked. He met with a Bishop and that Bishop was so impressed he took it to his superiors and so on and so on. When the man was asked if the Christian god had told him to do this, he clealry replied"No." He had just thought this would be how it worked. The Vatican liked it so much it became part of dogma.
