Simply put, Medicare is a federal health insurance program for people age 65 and older, certain people under 65 with disabilities and certain people with kidney disease.

Medicaid, which is administered by the states, is a program of health coverage for certain people with low incomes or very high medical bills. Eligibility for Medicare depends on age or disability only; eligibility for Medicaid depends on age, disability or family status and on an individual’s (or family’s) income and resources

Generally, Medicaid covers a broader scope of services than Medicare; however, Medicaid is means-tested and Medicare is not.

Medicare eligibility is never based on how much money a beneficiary has, the value of other assets owned or whether the beneficiary has given money away at any time.

Medicaid is means-tested and does consider an applicant’s assets and, in some instances, whether assets were given away to qualify for Medicaid

Generally speaking, Medicare is a federal social program available to seniors and those that are disabled. A working individual pays into Medicare through tax deductions on their paycheck.

Medicaid is also a federal social program, but each individual state also has a hand in it. Individual states set their guidelines for Medicaid eligibility. It is available to individuals of all ages that otherwise can not afford health insurance.

medicare is federal government ran..you pay a monthly copay of $93 a month and $23 a month if you get prescription coverage..you also pay copays for visits and prescriptions and most stuff it will only cover 80% of the cost

medicaid is state ran with money given to the state from the government..it has strict income restrictions to get on it..but, most care and coverage is 100% covered with no copays or deductibles..depending on the state you might or might not get dental or vision coverage if you are an adult but all kids under 21 get them

it is possible to be on both, medicaid will cover all medicare copays and deductibles and such
