I'm considering fasting for Jesus Christ to strengthen my relationship with him. I will go on only drinking water, no food.

If you've done this, can you tell me about your experience? Any advice? Was it hard? How long did you fast?

When done to perfection, a fast is done privately without telling anyone. You have already failed this test and should really consider if it is to be done now.

If fasting causes any hunger whatsoever, it is an imperfect fast and you should consider eating as you have lost the benefit of it.

The term fasting is never used in the Torah. The term is to afflict or make poor the soul. The level of the soul that is being talked about is the nephish which is the level that enjoys physical pleasures. This can be done by examining those areas in your life that need tikkun (repaired) and studying and praying with such intensity that you just forget to eat.

After 40 days of preparation, Jews fast for 24 hours on Yom Kippur. At our shul, the service lasts from about 9 in the morning until sunset which is intense prayer interspersed with intense periods of study. Nobody even thinks about eating.

Fasting is a good way to get focused and comunicate with God, just don't try to beat Jesus fasting for 40 days remember that suicide is a sin too.

i go for seven days. I have gone for forty, but i wouldnt suggest it...

eat nothing but fruit for three days prior to your fast, and end it with a few more days of fruit, then to chicken broth, veggies, etc...

think about a fruit smoothie and juices while you fast so the toxins dont leave you so quickly, making you sick.

and of course, much prayer, you will feel great if done right

do it. its healthy. cleans out your liver while youre getting close to God at the same time. Just remember, fasting is with the heart and the stomach. :)
Im a Muslim and we frequently fast...30 days (but we break it at sunset). the first two days are usually the most difficult and it gets easier as you go.
Good luck! :)

I do 2 day fasts. They are very worth while.

I had a friend who tried 40 days and almost killed himself. He ate after 36 days on doctors orders.

Fasting and prayer is well worth.
Don't go to extremes.
I fast skipping one or two meals.
