I am 14 and my friend 15 and we were rollerblading in a store.
Security came up to us and told us to leave.
As we were leaving another Security Officer came along and brought us to the office.
They called the police and we were handcuffed and taken to the police station.
Our parents called and released.
Was this legal.

Yep, perfectly legal. Stores and malls have signs posted to prevent the use of rollerblades, scooters, motorized bikes, etc., in-on-or around the stores and mall sidewalks. If you were inside the store, you were certainly endangering other customers, especially those with small children. Even if one security officer told you to leave, and the other had you arrested, you are minors, causing a civil disturbance. Had you injured someone or broken something, your parents would certainly be held liable for all damages.

Technically no. There is no law against rollerblading indoors. But I highly suspect that you were not "arrested" and it was not for "rollerblading in a supermarket".

Im guessing that you didnt leave when you were asked? They dont need a reason. And that allows the store to call the police and have you escorted from the premises. Since you were not adults, that allowed the police to turn you over only to your legal guardians (parents).

No it wasn't! There is no law against rollerblading ( however you little nuisances shouldn't do it!) so unless you were breaking another law you
should not have been detained

I've read the other posts & they are either made by wishful coppers or those who confuse law with regulation.

Sue the the supermarket for trespass to the person, the threat will scare the shite out of them most especially as you are "children"! Did they call social services? No? Heavy stuff going down here...

If a private citizen locks you up theyhave to be RIGHT. You were not charged so they were WRONG. Go for it !

i can't believe that you would go into a store with rollerblades . lacks judgement. if you were my kid , you would lose your cell phone, tv, internet for non school as well as gaming . you would also write the store manager a letter of apology. you are 14 and 15 ... you should do what the adults tell you to do and leave if you are asked to leave.

i think the police officers in this case were trying to teach you a lesson and some respect for authority. i think they handled this fine. as long as you were not harrassed verbally or beat on physically and did not have contact with other adults that were being detained.

please stop and think of your lessons learned here. consider your reputation / your ethics and the kind of person you want to be known as. you are in training now , for the kind of adult you want to become.

Legal on their part, yes, completely.

Stupid, for another security bigot to arrest you for doing exactly what you say the first security bigot told you to do, absolutely, but, there is nothing illegal about being stupid. Biggoted security officers and bigotted police officers do stupid things all the time.

The reason that we have cititzen's arrest laws in the first place is to reduce the much-more-likely possibility that the second bigot would have attacked you physically instead of just placing you under citizen's arrest, for the court system to sort out.

Unlike what happened to that Brazilian guy whom some bigotted police officers shot and killed in London a few years ago, for trying to catch his train on time, or the Colombian guy some bigotted air marshalls shot and killed simply for trying to get back off the plane he had been on.

What I would be curious to find out, however, is exactly what laws the security bigots convinced the police that you were violating.

Chances are, whatever the alleged crimes were, the security bigots were lying about it, which WOULD be illegal, and if you wanted to raise a rightful fuss about it, you could get your parents to file a lawsuit requiring them to explain their actions, or pay you some big amount of money, or both.

No they shouldn't have handed you in but the situation depends on if you were looking for trouble or not ! If you were going 100 KM/hour all over the place or you entered that place, very gently, not too fast, lol, picked up a basket , and started shopping which would have made it less likely for you to be bothered by the security. It's life ! you gotta be political.

Yes. I would have charged you with being "unruly", which is the kiddie version of disorderly conduct.
