i think the law is silly, but if i went to america and done something that was illegal their but legal here should i get let off with it due to my ignorance? i don't know of any laws that are different but if ignorance is a way to get out of a punishment what is the worst thing i could do and use that?
we are quick to condem what is happening to this teacher but if you make a mistake in judgement especially with all the press on how muslims react to the word mohamad and depictions, insults etc you wouldnt use that name.
I'm off to kill people now in belgium becouse i think that is ok (yes that is carcasm)

the teacher should have known better-ignorance I suppose
the little six year olds would'nt know anyway.
the 40 lashes are there in theory-but I would say it will not happen

It's just a ******* name. Anyone who says she deserves 40 lashes (which is in most cases a lethal amount) is a ******* stupid simpleton and is what's wrong with this world

You can name people Mohamed, but not a bear? What's wrong with those extremist bastards

AND btw she was from Liverpool in UK (If my sources are correct) so she is in no way of Violation of any laws. Its illegal to have marijuana in UK but its legel in Amsterdam. If someone from UK goes to Amsterdam they can smoke Marijuana and not get arrested. So why is someone in the UK getting punished (or 'should' be punished) for something thats illegal in another country????????

EDIT: ok, I think my source bullshitted me a little. I was under the understanding that what happened happened in Liverpool. Because of my understanding my earlier arguement is now a moot point.

BUT the law says blasphemy is illegal. What she did was not blasphemy, she just named a bear a name which happened to be the same name as the Prophet. That is NOT in anyway blasphemy, so I stand by my point that she doesn't deserve punishment.

It's just that humans have lost rationality. (They are worst than the monkeys "peace be upon them").

There it happens like that, in the United States happens that a girl at school gets detention for showing affection with a hug to a classmate. (not making out, just showing affection!)

Another gets detention for wearing a chastity ring.

In India a man is forced or allowed to marry an animal.

And there are some who care more about a stupid writing mistake, instead of just being polite to other people.

It is true what was written that people in this time would be only lovers of themselves.

We should put a sign in space that reads:

"Human inhabited planet, visit at your own risk !!".

This has nothing to do with ignorance and everything to do with an opressive, barbaric and mysoginistic law. She allowed the children to name the bear Mohammed, she didn't name it herself. It is the parents responsibility to teach their children that the name is sacred and not to be used, not hers.

The law is neanderthal and breaches human rights. If the leaders of this country actually had a collective backbone, they'd be pointing that out right now.

I cannot imagine why any intelligent person would agree with this punishment or this law.

This is my opinion, naming a toy after Mohamed isn't the same as naming it Allah. I am not a Muslim, but by elevating Mohamed to the same rank as God is in itself blasphemy. that is elevating the created with the Creator. For centuries Hispanics have named their sons Jesús without reprisal. This custom began in Spain in reaction to the Muslim custom of naming their sons Mohamed. Mohamed was nothing more than a man, not Almighty God.

Human rights are absolute and transcend the violations placed on them by governments religious or otherwise. This is what organisations like Amnesty International are about- defending human rights and exposing their abuses in countries like PR China, Burma, the Sudan etc.
PS I see you have been reported, as free speech notwithstanding, you have violated the TOS of YA with mention of death threats!
So I would say you have been 'hoist by your own petard'- or in this case 'canard'
Top Tip: Learn to engage your brain in gear before you open your mouth on here as you will be cut to ribbons (intellectually and metaphorically)

If a punishment breaches a persons basic human rights (international, universal, indisputable), should it be carried out because it's legal in that country?
For those who don't know, a teacher called a teddy bear mohammed.

2007-11-27 18:01:57 · answer #7 · answered by Anonymous · 2 0

It is a ludicrous law. Mohammed isn't even alive to be "insulted", and I can't seriously imagine how any reasonable person could possibly be offendded by naming a teddy bear after him.

Some idiot has it in for the teacher.
