I think what is the purpose of the whole stupid debate when there are other means of obtaining stem cells that are not contrversial

For example, stem cells can be collected from the cord blood and placenta after birth with no harm to baby or mother. Stem cells can also be collected from the white blood cells of an adult with no harm.

With these other renewable sources, and considering that embryonic cells are being proven not as 'good', why do we even continue the debate?

My opinion is you don't need embryos to do stem cell research. Stem cells are available other ways. I don't know if cures will come about, but I think treatments are likely to. They are a long time in coming, though. If you are referring specifically to cancer cures, then no I don't believe any cures will come about.

I'm kind of undecided about that..
see, there are two ways of looking at it: logically and ethically
logically, i think that eventually stem cell research will have a dynamic breakthrough, and from that point onwards, for all those who can afford it, there will ba a lower number of children with genetic disabilities. this would give those kids a much greater chance at success when they grow older, to be independant and live like everyone else.
however, ethically, this is that very thing that i oppose- why change an unborn child before it can make the choice itself? why would we take away the opportunity from a child to choose for itself what life it wants? [i understand that by giving the child a choice, it would be too late to do anything] also, by chnaging the child, we're making it the SAME as everyone else- we're making it CONFORM. we have our own standards of what is success, and by genetically aletring an unborn child, we are making it live by our "rules"...maybe that child with the genetic disability has its own definition of success, maybe he/she would've been happier with the disabilty.

yeah. lol :P

Embryonic stem cells are too volatile to be of any use.

yes, I believe "they" will find cures using stem cells.
