That is standard. It doesn't mean that they aren't going to watch the kids. It's just stating that if anything happens, you can't sue the school

Either I would become the chaperone or just not sign the permission slip! I don't like the way that sounds either becasue it leaves me felling uneasy. I would never want to have to get a phone call; saying anything happened to my child because of their irresponsible school and chaperones. Their eyes and attention should never leave any of the children. On field trips anything can happen. My advice would be don't sign it! Its better to be safe then sorry, you and child will thank you in the long run for keeping him/her safe!

That's pretty typical. It's like when you sign a waiver stating you are aware that you could die while getting a wisdom tooth removed. Definately not likely, but it covers their butts.
It's the only way they can HAVE field trips. Insurance would go through the roof otherwise.
If your child were hurt, or in any situation that comment might refer to, most of the time, they assume at least some responsiblility voluntarily.
If you're that worried about it, chaperone the trip. I've done that with my kids, and they LOVE it when I do, and I get to hang out with them and their friends for a day, and make sure my kid doesn't get hurt or anything.

All of them say that . They don't want you to sue if your child wonders off and is eaten by a lion at the zoo. There is a minimum amount of chaperone's per child but still things happen. If you don't sign your child will never go on any field trips

I hate to tell you this but all field trip slips say that. They can't do it otherwise. If you don't feel comfortable with it then don't let your child go. Of course, he/she won't be very happy with that. I've let my kids go on trips and they go far away too. The thing is is that I trust my children and know that they know how to behave in public. I don't have to worry about them running off. If you're so worried then go with them. I've done that a lot of times.

Of course the school and it's assigned chaperones are responsible! And I would make a note on the form to that end- "my child will be attending with the understanding that the outing is safe and chaperones/ the district are legally responsible for the welfare of my child during such outing provodong my chil maintains proper conduct and observes safety rules"...If they say the child can't go, have a lawyer check into it- a school that takes minors to places where it cannot/ will not be responsible for their welfare isn't a school where you want your child! Doesn't that school have an attorney who looks over the forms they send out??!

Most permission slips have that type of language...sign the persmission slip if you feel comfortable...but everything should be fine...that is just the schools way to cover them just in case anything goes wrong.

It depends. How old is your child? Where is the field trip?
If I felt comfortable with where my child was going, and knew who the chaperones were and was comfortable with them, then I would sign it. Unfortuneately in this day and age, schools have to add that in as everyone is so sue happy.

Doesn't matter to be honest what they put in the permission slip as if something DID happen while your child was in their care you CAN sue them. The school know this too and by wording the permission slip that way they are using a scare tactic in the case. If it bothers you that much keep him home.

Lots of permission slips say that. If your child is not going any place that you would consider dangerous ( and I can't imagine any school taking kids any place they could get hurt) just sign it and let him go.

I think that is on there for those kids who behave in a wreckless fashion. Otherwise a parent could say well its not my fault johnny broke into the cash register at the gift shop the school was watching him. Sign it and let the kid go.
