I needed a car because I am 17 years old and he's getting the Audi Q7/Q5 (not sure yet) because he's convinced that it's the best SUV on the market (and trust me, it drives WAY better than the Cayenne.) Anyways, my mother starting yelling at him because she says its "inapropriate" for a teen girl to drive a car like that and that he should buy me a Nissan SUV instead. Would a father who would make a normal decision of handing down his old car be crazy?

Well, I'm just wondering if that's a crazy decision. I mean, a Porsche Cayenne is one of the best SUVs on the market. If I get a Porsche before I'm even legal, what will happen when I get a job and can't pay for the repairs? I feel like a Porsche is just a status symbol and that when I go to college people will hate me and call me a snobby ***** for having a $100,000 car.

I am very thankfull but a Porsche isn't a BMW or a Mercedes-Benz. Most of the time, a Porsche is a head-turner. I woudn't mind having a Mercedes or BMW since those are discreet cars and nobody stares at you when you drive it...the Cayenne has been on the market for almost 5 years and I still turn heads with that car (unlike my mom's Audi SUV)

Not if the car in question is mechanically sound. The question would be,why does your mom think the porsche is inappropriate? Is it because of the cost of the car,or is it a safety issue?Actually,SUV's in general are not good choices for first cars. But,since your dad already has the one,if it has no mechanical problems,I can see him passing it down.Be thankfull that your parents are giving you a car.I had to purchase my first car,and share it with the family at that.Either way, your one of the lucky ones.

Are you annoyed that your dad gave you a perfectly good used car? or annoyed that your mom thinks he's crazy? Cant tell from the question. Just be thankful and act responsible.

No ,I think BOTH your parents are wrong.I think you should have to work and buy your OWN car. Then they can never say it is theirs or they are taking it away, etc it will mean more because YOU worked for it and paid for it.
