There are many folk cures for hiccups (singultus). Its when the air we breath in stops rapidly from entering by the glottis. There are a few things that could work, including being startled, which will alter your breathing pattern. or hyperventilating which will increase the carbon dioxide in your blood which inhibit the neural pathway for hiccups.

i dont know, but my mom says to drink some water and keep it in your mouth for like, a minute before gulping it down.
i do that when i hiccup and it worked
and another way is to lie down, bend ur knees to ur chest and hold ur knees up with ur arms
(u hiccup cuz theres unwanted gas in ur stomach, if u do this, u might fart, but ull feel better after u fart or burp)
so, i suggest u do it alone
when theres pepul around u, try the water thing rather than the knee thing.
G00D LUCK!!

it takes an extra person to help you, but this always works for me:
Put your fingers in your ears (as if you're blocking out all sound). Have a person "feed" you 3 gulps of water. One at a time, with a pause in between. (swallow hard)
After the 3rd gulp, your hiccups should be gone.
Works every time for me.

Taking a long sip of water, or something to that effect.
Hiccups are cured by cutting off air to the esophagus. (hence why people scare other people, or take long sips of water)

Whenever I have hiccups, I'll take a glass of water. Drink the whole glass without stopping to catch my breath.
It always works for me!

There are drugs that you can probably get with a doctors prescriptions that help...supposedly. There really is no way to cure hiccups. Your best bet is to let them just stop on their own.

Hi,
No 'proven' cures, only folklore I am afraid to say. The only way to get rid of them is to let them run their course.
