Do you think DEATH is a "barbaric" punishment for a rapist?

For the American Soldier that raped and murdered her and then killed her family..a fourteen year old girl Iraqi girl! He was given a life sentence in a cozy military prison. If he did that here in the States he would get the Death Penalty. Also anyone that rapes a child should be punished as a murderer!

There is one major problem with capital punishment: it's very FINAL. You can't change your mind about it once you've killed someone, no matter what new evidence might be found and so if a person is going to be sentenced to death for any crime, we had better be very sure that he or she actually committed the crime and actually deserves to die because of being a threat to society. If the threat of a punishment is a deterrent to the crime (if the thought of getting caught and punished prevents a criminal from committing a crime) then it is a justified punishment. But revenge is barbaric. And it become more so if an act of revenge is taken without firm proof that a particular person committed a particular crime.
It is however quite reasonable to take a weapon away from a violent criminal and to have a person who injures another person make restitution for the damage done.
In some cases, it might be reasonable to put a convicted rapist to death, but only with very solid proof and with no hope of rehabilitating this criminal.
It is a very emotional issue, maybe deservedly so. If I knew that a man raped a woman I love (my wife, mother, daughter, etc.) I would be tempted to take the law into my own hands. But I would expect the authorities of my community to act reasonably and responsibly toward us both.

I think the 'burning barn' treatment is the best way of all to deal out punishment for rapists and child molesters....
you find an old barn..... you take the pervert into the barn.... you nail his gonads to the floor of the barn, hand him a dull butter knife and then set the barn on fire.... you leave..... pretty much takes care of the problem......

barbaric?.. yes..... and so satisfying when you're the victim....especially if you get to watch................

No it is not. Remember the Qur'anic verse that states "There is life in just punishments; O owners of insights!"
And as a friend has mentioned above, the punishment for this crime is the same in Christianity, that is quite natural, since the same God that sent Jesus (PBUH) sent it to Muhammad (PBUH) in a more perfect and comprehensive set.

Castration is barbaric. I think serial rapists deserve the death penalty. -especially when the victims are children.

Actually.... depends on HOW he is put to death. I can think of quite a few "barbaric", yet highly suitable versions. :)

Barbaric no, fair yes, lets remember that since mileniums ago the rapists and other criminals had been given death penalty, and even God prescribed in the Bible that they shall suffer death.

Is it truth that in some Islamic countries thay still castrate the rapists?

No, I think it would be better if they took all pervs, molesters and rapists and tied them to a pole in the center of a main street (naked) for 24 hours and then let the citizens spit , kick, punch, whatever but not kill them oh and a cold very cold day would be best.Then throw them in a cell and throw away the key.
