i heard that small dogs stay pregnat longer then big dogs. is it true

You heard wrong. Small dogs are pregnant for the same amount of time as large dogs - 63 days.

No, all dogs have a gestational period of about 63 days. Some may give birth a few days before or after this but it has nothing to do with the size of the dog.

OMG! Shelby! It is not true at all. It's a lie! I dont care who you heard this from but they didn't know what they were talking about.
I've been a breeder for over 27 years and dogs all have basically the same gestation period. That's it.
Small dogs, Big dogs all the same. 63 days!

actually, 63 days is the norm, but like with humans can vary by a few days - but if anything, a larger dog might take a day or 2 longer. (i have a japanese spitz and they sometimes only take 58 days or so and they are SMALL.)
pregnancy is pregnancy; a big woman takes 9 months, just like a small woman!

a gestation period for a dog must be more or less the same whatever its size -however i may well be wrong

No, it is not true. All dogs regardless of size or breed are pregnant approximately 9 weeks, give or take a day or two.
