It sounds to me like you're attempting to find opposing views to a topic ... maybe ... for school.

There are plenty of reasons for keeping a weapon in the home but because you asked for reasons NOT to keep them...here you go!

1) Improper training and education to family members who mishandle the weapon and wind up with serious injury or death.

2) The potential of an attacker getting the weapon from you and using your own weapon against you!

3) Improperly securing the weapon and having it stolen.

4) Used in a fit of anger by a family member.

I think if you use your imagination you could find other reasons.

Because why would I want to defend myself and my grandchild from people breaking into my home? I'd much rather be a victim. This from today's AP wire:

Pistol-Packing Grandma Stops Would-Be Burglars

CARTHAGE, Mo. — A 63-year-old grandmother with a handgun stopped two burglars at her backdoor in Carthage.

The Jasper County Sheriff's Department said a woman and a 16-year-old boy were arrested after the foiled break-in Friday and charged with first-degree burglary.

The grandmother was at home with her grandchild when the burglars broke down her back door.

She grabbed a handgun and stopped the pair, but they ran away when the woman went back inside to call the sheriff's department.

Deputies arrested the suspects about three hours later in Carthage.

Lt. Aaron Richardson of the sheriff's department said first-degree burglary charges have been filed against Faith Barrick, 39, of Carthage, and a 16-year-old male accomplice.

If you have kids, obviously you'll have to be extra careful, which may defeat the purpose of having guns in your house for protection.

Being it a fact that police officers can't be accepted into police academy if they score too high in the IQ test (http://www.ananova.com/news/story/sm_56314.html ), are often caught on camera violating civil rights and abusing those who they swore to serve and protect, I am not one to sustain that only law enforcement should carry weapons. Citizens should be able to defend themselves when those sworn to it may abuse power on them.

So no one can break in and grab your gun to shoot you, or take away for an armed robbery etc.

If you still want to you will need a licence, and a secure gun case.

It is better if there are no guns around just look at the amount of Kids getting hold of them and going on a rampage.

So people can just walk right in and rob or kill you without any provocation?

Sorry, I've got many guns and I haven't been robbed yet and chances are I never will even those all around me have been robbed.

If you are a convicted felon, convicted of domestic abuse, possesion of that weapon would be a violation of the law, if you feel you shouldn't, or if you are not trained, proficient and mature enough, otherwise the answer is why not?

because most people actually wind up using guns for the wrong reasons (like suicide).
