Come on guys, he said a 4wd SUV not Jeep. Don't lower a Jeep, we'll hate you forever and you'll be ridiculed wherever you go. You can lower your 4wd Escape, CR-V, or Trail Blazer though. I'm fine with that. As a matter of fact I encourage it.

you can lower any vehicle including a 4wd SUV, depending on the age and availability of lowering kits.

Personally, I would put an air bag system in it so that of you change your mind and want temporary height, just flip a switch.

If that is not an issue to you, just but a set of lowering springs and away you go.

Again, this is dependant on the vehicle but it would have to be something really odd for there not to be a lowering kit available for it.

lets see. 4x4 is exactly that . a 4 wheel drive with built in ground clearance.no owner in their correct state of mind would lower something meant to be lifted. by lowering you will
defeat the purpose of owning a 4x4. if you have a 4x4 with
independent front suspension then you run into wearing out the c/v joints by changing the factory heighth. if you really
want to lower something go buy an old 49 merc or 53 chevy.
they look way cooler than any suv.

Certainly. You can lower it until a part of the drivetrain hits something. A good example fo this would be the old GMC Syclone and Typhoon. These were what you might call super-performance trucks. They were, I think, about the most high performance truck ever made to that time, and they were both all wheel drive, and both low.

Check out the Cherokee SRT8 also. It's low.

Why would you lower a 4WD vehicle? It defeats the purpose of a 4WD. Buy a crappy car and lower it.

You could lower it a bit. Maybe 2-6 inches depending on the make.
The bigger question would be why.
