You might try taking care of them yourselves. Cats do need some attention, though not all cats like to be petted much.
Also, keep in mind that you can keep only so many cats in a small space before it starts stinking to high heaven. I used to know a guy who had about 20-30 in the house, and an equal number outside. And the first couple of times I came there, I gagged- literally. That is extreme, I know. But between that and vet bills, your mom might have a good reason for wanting to give the kitties to good homes.

Take care of them and feed them yourself...wothout her having to do it OR remind you to do it. This will convince her, but you have to want them that bad.
