There are many opinions with which I strongly disagree, but I support people's right to speak their minds, and that includes opinions that I personally find distasteful. Just because I tolerate someone's right to voice an opinion that I find abhorrent doesn't mean that I'm suddenly a supporter of that particular opinion.

Yes, I think it makes sense. To tolerate something means you respect the rights of others. You need not accept that what they are doing is good.

Of course. It leads right into "just because I can accept it (as existing) doesn't mean I like it."
There's quite a bit of distance between tolerance and approval, so I don't often understand INtolerance.

Are you asking, is there a difference between tolerance and acceptance?
I think there may be.
Wouldn't tolerance signify aloofness - courteous, but aloof - from another's choice? You probably don't much care for it, but you are choosing to go along to get along. . .
. . and, if pushed too much farther, that could change . . .
Whereas acceptance would mean that you are pleased with, even admire and applaud, their choice? You are on board.

Tolerance is a passive form of acceptance. Do you understand this logic?

All anyone asks is for people to tolerate others.
The right-wing Christian fundamentalists do not do this, however. And neither do the Islamic fundamentalists.
Due to this, they are pounding the final nails into the coffin of their cults once and for all.
Every single day, more and more people are realizing just how dangerous these intolerant belief systems really are.

Of course. We all don't have to believe in the same thing. But at least we can love and accept one another

That's fine: I feel the same way.
I tolerate other people's beliefs. I do not accept creches on courthouse lawns.

Perfectly. Just because someone is different from you: religiously, sexually, politically, doesn't mean you are going to judge them or show them prejudice. That, however, doesn't mean you accept their beliefs, sexual orientations or political views and will make them your own.
