The Bible never prohibits the drinking of alcohol, but it does command that Christians not get drunk. 1 Corinthians 5:11 says "But now I am writing you that you must not associate with anyone who calls himself a brother but is sexually immoral or greedy, an idolater or a slanderer, a drunkard or a swindler. With such a man do not even eat."

The Bible has no prohibitions against drinking. What is does prohibit is drunkenness. Some Christians seem to think this means no drinking, but that would not be accurate (See: Jesus turning water into wine and the Last Supper).
I'm a Christian and I'm also an alcoholic (who does not drink). So it *is* sinful for me to drink, as drinking has mastery over me if I participate in it. But for others who are fine with having a glass or two of wine (or beer or what have you) and not getting drunk, it isn't a sin nor is it preached against in scripture.

I don't know any Christians that are drunk all the time. What was the first miracle of Jesus? Do some homework.
Drinking is not a sin, being drunk is a sin, just like eating is not a sin, but gluttony is a sin.
Where in the bible does it say that drinking is a sin?
Why do you assume that Christians are so drunk all the time?
Peace!

Hello,
It is not prohibited but must be drunk in moderation.
The theory of it being grape juice is a falsehood some minister came up with in the 19th century.
Two sayings show this;
Roman proverb: Veritas in vino est. - There is truth in wine.
Proverbs in the Bible says do not overindulge in wine or you will feel like your on the mast of a ship in a stormy sea and wake up feeling you were bit by a poison serpent...
Finally "Cardinal" Richelieu once said that if God did not want man to enjoy wine, why did he make it so good!
Cheers,
Michael Kelly
PS
As for Islam, I know many Muslims that smoke. Tobacco was not around in the world of Jesus or Mohamed but I am surprised they did not ban it, Wine has some health benefits bur smoking does not. I consider cigarettes the worst of the two, especially when abused.

No. The Bible does not prohibit drinking. It prohibits OVER-INDULGENCE in alcohol.
The first miracle Jesus performed while on earth was converting water into fine wine. The Apostle Paul counselled Timothy to "drink a little wine for the sake of your stomach".
The issue is moderation.

Christians as a whole are not drunk all the time. I'm sorry that you've encountered that though. Drinking is not a sin. Drunkenness is though.
Here's the thing though ..... gluttony is a sin, lying is a sin, coveting is a sin, gambling is a sin .....
I could go on and on and you'd catch Christians doing every one of them. We are humans and we fail .... Big Time.
Christians are not perfect - not even close. We just claim the righteousness of Christ. His grace --- His forgiveness.

Drinking, not being drunk, not alcoholism, but drinking alcohol is fine. If you ask a Baptist though, you'll probably get a different answer.

because life in Christ is a life of freedom, and some people have too much freedom at too early a period in their development and make unwise decisions. I have done this many times as a youngster. But I don't think all Christians are "so drunk all the time."

My denomination doesn't prohibit alcohol. We use wine for Communion every Sunday, and wine, champagne, and beer are sometimes served at church fundraisers. There's nothing wrong with alcohol. However, outright drunkenness is frowned upon, and is warned against in Scripture.

Another generalization.
Some Christians do drink a lot, but I wouldn't generalize.
