I have seen similar questions. Am I happy Christ died for my sins? Yes! He came with a purpose and fulfilled it and I am glad. We no longer have to go alone before the thrown of God.
Am I sad that it had to be this way, sure. But, God chose the method and saw it through.
I am grateful for all the sacrifices that have been made on my part. Many of us live in America and those that do not perhaps live in places where Americans, and others, fought to keep Hitler from over taking the World. Countless lives were lost, but I am happy they made that sacrifice. During the American Revolution many suffered horribly and I reap the benifit some never saw and I am happy. I would prefer grateful but I will settle for happy.
Please notice I do not intone my willingness for such sacrifices. I have not been challenged with any and to make idle boasts is hollow at best ungrateful at worst.

My father was serving at Pearl Harbor the day it was bombed. He was a cook there. When the bomb began falling, his sergeant raced into the building and led the men to safety. But when an unexploded shell fell in the middle of their group, he jumped on that shell and shielded the others from most of the force of its explosion. Because of the sergeant's actions, the other men survived with little injury.
My father did not want or choose for that brave man to die like that. It was a horrible and tragic moment that tortured his dreams from many years to come.
But at the same time he was appreciative of the man's sacrifice and honored him as a hero. He always made sure that until the man's two children were adults that he sent them a Christmas present every year.
Was he "happy" that man died. Not in sense that you are referring to in your question. But he owned that man his own live, and honored his death every year because of that.
That is the way in which Christians are "happy" that Jesus died.

"Happy" Is to strong a word for it. I'm sure they thank him for dying for their sins. Although you have to think that Jesus isn't really helping Christians now is he? He is dead...In heaven if you must. He isn't here now to "die for our sins" again is he? So basically he dies for the sins of all those people many years ago but he is gone now and therefore not helping anyone.
Ultimately you would think that Christians would prefer to have him around still as a direct communication to god. Maybe if he was constantly dying and being resurrected it would make more sense as he would constantly be removing us of our sin.
Anyways - thats my view.

We are thankful that He died to save us, so that we could live with Him forever, but what makes it even more victorious is that Jesus is no longer dead, He is alive, and so that brings victory of the sin and the grave. Happy isn't the word- Thankful and desire to live for Him, is a better term for how we feel.

we're happier about the Resurrection, of course!
In the Catholic Church, anyway, Good Friday is a day of sacrifice--no meat, fasting, etc. We're aren't supposed to be happy about it, but to remember He died to bring salvation. According to our beliefs, which I'm guessing you don't share, but that's cool. I don't require outside validation, and I try not to be so doctrinaire that I can't see that other paths are just as valid to a sincere believer.
(God, that sounded patronizing. Didn't mean it that way. Really!)

Except He didn't stay dead and He lives in Heaven now. Of course I'm happy that Jesus died for my sins and gave me a way into Heaven. Am I happy that He had to endure all the pain and suffering to do so- no. What, are you trying to trap us?

The people who wanted to see him dead only thought they were. And where are they now?

Isn't the holiday called 'Good Friday'? They're ecstatic!! Beats me why. That's about like saying, "I bet thousands on the champ but he was beaten to death and I lost. Yay!!!"

Happy? No. Absolutely horrified and aghast at how He was treated? yes. Totally humbled and grateful that He took my punishment for my sins? Absolutely.
