Once a female dog reaches puberty it begins its regular cycles of Estrus or heat which allow the dog to release eggs and reproduce. Most females have 2 cycles per year. Signs that your dog is in heat include include vaginal discharge which is clear, bleeding and swelling of the vulva. There is increased restlessness and there may be increased urination. You also may notice stray dogs hanging around your house, though the female will not accept mating at this point. This early period of heat called Proestrus, lasts between 4 -15 days depending on the size and breed of the dog along with other factors.
If you do not have her spayed (which will stop the heat cycles) you can use regular human diapers to keep the blood from getting on your furniture and carpet. Just make sure to cut a hole for her tail.

They last about 3 weeks. They can start anytime from around 6 months to a year. How much blood depends on the individual, but some can get quite messy.
If you have them spayed, they do not come into season, so none of that is an issue.

They last around 2-3 weeks bigger dogs are messier then small dogs,if you are getting a small dog alot of people put pull-ups on the dog while she is in heat. Its not that hard and it works quit well.

Different dog, different stats. If you neuter the dog she will be happier, healthier, less likely to develop cancer of the breast and no spotting of the furniture. But some dogs, not neutered, can really be messy. But it varies.

They have a "heat" or a "season" they do not have a period.
21 days is the average length.. bleeding decreases the 3rd week although she is still fertile at that time (more fertile than at the beginning).
Some b*tches bleed a lot, some don't.... some girls clean themselves... some don't and it looks like a murder was committed.

not a lot of blood. the period lasts about two months. if my gramma's dog is any sign, her poodle's period was just a red stain in her private areas. she didn't bleed all over everything the way a human woman would without a pad on.

A female dog won't have "days" if she is spayed.
