Liquid and solid chocolate can safely be measured the same, by either weight or volume.

If you were to measure out 1 cup of liquid chocolate, and leave it in the cup, when it hardens it will still take up the same space int hat cup as it did when liquid.

Did you buy your chocolate from the baker's section? Each individually-wrapped square is going to be one oz.

If you have a brick, look at the label and cut off enough. Be sure to chop it up really well before you melt it/add the hot cream.

If you are melting it 1 cup of chocolate will be 8 ounces.
