A slide scanner costs around £70 and transfers slides 3 at a time onto disk at 5 megapixels, the files can be JPEG or TIFF as you please. Here is a link.

There are scanners that can not only scan documents and photos, but negatives and slides as well. They are a bit more pricey than scanners that just do documents and photos. Some will have a "feeder" that allows strips of film to be scanned in sequence; but if your slides are in 2x2 holders for a projector, you will likely have to do them one-at-a-time. These scanners have resolutions in the 1000's of dots-per-inch (dpi) to capture a quality image from your slide or negative. They use a back-light to illuminate the slide or negative from behind, so the scanner can "see" the image. You should be able to find a few lower-cost scanners at local electronic stores. Look for a unit in the $150 to $200 price range. Tell the salesman what you need; then go to another store and do the same thing. Write down model numbers of the units you are shown; then go to the Internet and look up those model numbers and get some competitive prices. Buy from the dealer with the best deal (including shipping costs). If at all possible, buy from an established retailer rather than on line. And be sure you know the retailers return policy, just in case the scanner's quality does not meet yours.
