Ok you have been presented with 2 theories.
Let's look at them:
GOD - Ok here you have been told that God impregnantes a teenager who is another man's wife. Her husband, Joseph, apparently is OK with that since he raises the lad. God has some rules for you, they obviously do not apply to him. YOU are not allowed to covet your neighbor's wife.

God gets pissed off at the world and decides to save a few of his children and some pairs of animals and start over by flooding the earth and killing off everybody. Kind of like turning an Etch A Sketch over and shaking it. But another of God's rules for YOU, not him, is you can not kill.

Ok now let's view the Santa Theory
This golly old soul works year round to provide happiness for all the children in the world. This inspires them to be good all year long.

Santa quit smoking when he found out second hand smoke is harmful.

He's been married forever to the same woman, never cheated on her even though he has a list of naughty girls.

Santa brings happiness. That's all he does. He doesn't kill people. He's loving and performs miracles.

Now which one are you more likely to want to believe in?

Santa has my vote.

I find them equally useful and tangible so I guess I will just pick the one with out a track record of evil: Santa.

Neither. But at least the Santa Claus story does not pretend to be anything other than secular. While the Christmas story is secular, while pretending to be religious. Only God can institute a holy day. He instituted many in the Old Testament, including the sabbath. After Christ ascended we have no record of the apostles or disciples celebrating the birth of Christ. We have a clear record of the first century church in the New Testament, and it is not there. We do know that Christmas was begun many centuries later, and didn't become universally celebrated until even many more centuries after that. So it is clear it is not a day proclaimed by God, or celebrated by the church.

I believe in God, and believe that Jesus was a great man who changed the world. I don't believe the two are connected, however.

For me, christmas is originally the milestone of that great man's birth, and is also a great holiday for kids. I love all the lights and decorations...the more and the tackier, the better.

I can't shun any religious figure who really stands for LOVE and good. (I just can't subscribe to the Christian religion and it's hypocrisy).

Neither, Christmas and the story of Jesus' birth is a total rip off of the ancient celebration of the winter solstice.

So the earth and the moon and the sun get my vote, not some make believe jerkwad carpenter who was his own father, nor some make believe jerkwad alcoholic who lives at the north pole and carries a custom made machine gun which fires not bullets but christmas gifts.

Well to begin with i don't care for the holiday.I think it is too over rated and everyone acts fake, but I would find it easier to believe in Santa Than one true God.

Santa is also based on a real person. And his legend was picked up and carried on by later people. He would make toys and would come to the village and they left thier stockings on the door knob he would put the toys in there for them.

I'm not Christian or Clausian, but I like Christmas because it's a standard time for family to gather together. That's the part that I look forward to. My girlfriend and I both have great families.
