I'm genuinely interested in answers to this. Why are believers in a god prepared to believe in a god? Is there a reason you are prepared to believe in something that can never be proven in this life? Was there a specific incident that caused you to believe or were you just raised to believe? Have you ever questioned your belief or is it something you just accept?

you ask a good question. for me, it has to do with how i was raised. not a strong catholic but, catholic none the less. i got away from it for quite some time but, found a lot missing or going wrong in my life so i went back. all those i knew who seemed to be living a better life, were involved in thier church. i figured i had nothing to lose. for me, it seems to have worked. while i can't make everything perfect, i can have a better sense of self when i'm involved.

The imagination is a powerful thing - and that is why people are convinced about God, and Jesus, etc.
Note - this has been done over centuries, and so the propaganda machine is well oiled and drilled by now - but the simple truth shatters it plain as day.
Why isn't there updates to the Bible? God hasn't appeared since when??? People claim 'miracles' but usually these are of the small variety in which coincidence and chance plays it's part and not God.

And note - how Christianity does not stand out to be any better than other world religions? Why is this?
If God was backing the Christians only - shouldn't they be 85% or so of the whole population everywhere? Something better than chance, anyway...

Note the decline of religion, as the world gets more intelligent and aware - not prepared to accept anymore the veiled threats - Oh, if you don't believe in God, you won't get into heaven. Or that your soul won't be saved (as if a soul needs saving? - it is immortal anyway? Isn't it...)

Because believing fills me. My heart won't let me feel anything else. I grew up in a home where both parents were nonbelievers but I always have as far back as I can remember. It was never anything that someone said or did and I can't recall a specific incident that was the cause. I've always been a very spiritual person but as an adult my relationship with God grew. It's a personal relationship, I don't belong to a religion or church. He has taught me everything I know and I can only accept guidance and direction from Him. He has never failed me.

I see and hear people around me both believeing and not believing in God. It doesnt affect me one way or the other. I've always believed in God and it has nothing to do with any particular religion. To me-religion is man made. There have been no specific incidents. Every day when I wake up and look at the sky and the mountains, I know God is responsbile.
Childbirth also is a miracle to me. I've never required proof,at least not man made proof.

Nothing else made sense. I didn't come to Christ or believe in God until I was near 30. I thought, like most people here that religion was for the weak-minded and the deceived. A series of trials made me realize the God loved me and wanted me to be His child- so I put my faith in Jesus as my Savior. Yes, I have gone through times when I have questioned- but then I remember how my life has changed since Jesus came into my heart. I wouldn't go back to living without Him for anything!

I was not raised with a faith but I always "knew" there was something more out there. I studied various religions, met with religious leaders and really did a lot of soul searching.

While my religion isn't a Christian or typical religion, it is still faith. I do question my faith and regularly read writings from a large variety of holy writings.

I guess the main reason I believe is that it doesn't feel write when I ask if there could be no universal energy or guiding force behind the creation of the worlds, universe and the wonders around us.

Hope this makes sense.

I was raised Christian by open minded Christians. Many times in my life I doubted there is a God. I have seen no interference from Him ever.

After an Assembly of God experience I ran away from God. I tried with all of my soul to not believe but I could not let go.

I have no doubt there is an afterlife and that most souls cross over.

Why do I believe? I believe because I have felt God's presence around me all of my life. I was a very sickly child. I nearly died many times. I am still physically challenged. Yes I did go to church as a Child because I asked to go. I was never forced to go. As a very small child I was sitting on my Mothers lap in Church in the Hospital. I heard the old hymn 'In the Garden' I saw Jesus ( in a dream like state) walking with me I felt Jesus holding my little hand. Jesus has always brought me comfort. I was the one who would come home from Church and I would witness to my parents. My parents did finally both become Children but only after I was a grown woman. Yes Mom took me to Church when I was small but that was one of the times I almost died. She was grateful. Mom was a drinker and after I recovered she and Dad hit the nightclubs again. But she had given her life to God and she had asked Jesus into her life by the time she passed away. My Dad was an entertainer. He was a preacher when he died and his songs became Christian songs. I find wonderful love with God.
