Just try to speak your mind in the moment when someone upsets you. You don't have to be be nasty, just tell them how you feel. It will do wonders for you.

You're not alone :-)
You have to learn to be nice but firm, this doesn't mean nasty, just firm. If someone is rude to you, just answer with a firm tone that you will not take that kind of treatment, or tell them you are so sorry they are unhappy in life, otherwise they wouldn't be that mean. I'm not sure what age group you're referring to, must be teenagers.
I used to feel the same way as you when I was younger, it does get better as you get older and gain self confidence and people gain maturity. I used to just ignore mean people (I had not learned to be firm without being emotional yet), if someone said something mean to me, I would just give them a look and leave. It did work most times! never give up being nice, it always works in the long run.
I'm sure you're pretty, they may call you 'ugly' to hide their own insecurities. Hang in there honey, it will get better :-)

Because unfortunately, that is how some people are regardless of who you are or how you treat them. They are rude, nasty, and miserable and they obviously want to be...and want you to be miserable too. Remember the saying though, kill them with kindness. I can relate to you too, especially working with the public with all types of people and also going to stores and driving on the road. Alot of people just like acting like wild animals...i don't. I hate it...and why on earth would i want to make somebody else feel bad or insulted? Maybe some of them are just haters too...they don't like to see you happy so they want to try and bring you down. I usually have self-control when people are rude to me, but a few times i have slipped up and given some of them a piece of my mind...but that doesn't benefit you and doesn't win their respect most of the time anyway(sometimes it does...it all depends...lol). And you may not know this but it was foretold in the Bible at 2 Tim.3:1-5 the characteristics of people in our time...such as fierce, greedy, showing no natural affection etc.

One must take into consideration that many people have different issues in their lives and may not even realize they are being perceived as "nasty". Sometimes all it takes is a smile or kind gesture to make a difference, maybe they to have been called names or sworn at. We all have off days...

We cannot let words ruin our day, there are too many beautiful things around us in this world to redirect our focus on. Time on this earth is precious, our lives are just fleeting moments in the spans of the universe. Enjoy your moment, don't sweat the small stuff.

It's just the "ugly" in them.
Some people, for whatever reason get a perverse satisfaction out of hurting others...either in a physical way or emotional. These are sick individuals and sometimes they know it and sometimes they don't.

Thankfully everybody is not that way. Stay the way you are...don't let the foolishness of others cause you to become like them.
Have you heard the old saying..."misery loves company"
Miserable folks can't stand to wallow alone in it, they feel the need to drag others in.

Are you a New York City girl or what?! Its nice to be nice but don't tell me a real NYC girl can't throw out a little attitude. If someone gets in your grill tell 'em to step off!

I agree, the best way to deal with situations like that is to just tell them whats on your mind at that moment. Atleast that way you have save yourself the feeling of being rediculed. Trust me, when you tell people off like that, you'll be surprised how quickly they get 'shut up' and walk away!!

give them what they dish out...hon, this is the internet, a lot of people are on here for other reasons other than to discuss topics etc. I am always getting comments from pervs, but I ignore it...I hate men like that and most women who are confident don't act like nasty ho's so when someone acts like that put them on ignore...block them its that simple....

I know exactly what you mean. I've gotten to the point where it amuses me to see how rauled-up people can get. And quite honestly I love killing them with kindness because it pisses them off even more. its not your fault they hate the world, so don't sweat it!
