Yes i mean mafia. Is there any way of finding out which islands are least risky? i'm thinking of setting up a small business there but don't want to be vulnerable as it's a big step for me

i'm british actually, but i'm engaged to a caribbean native and am hoping to set up a business with a swiss friend of mine who has just been granted citizenship in st lucia. As 2 'foreigners' i'm not sure what reception we'll get, although we want to promote local businesses in other fields at the same time. How do u think we'll fair? i could do without protection rackets

Are you asking if you can purchase a racket to protect an item or are you asking if in the Caribbean a business will pay person/people for protection like the mafia.

Yes, to both questions. Paying for protection is often done secretively and hidden.)

Anywhere there is crime.

what nationality are you? If you are an American, it is hard to get legal permits to set up in the islands which aren't American; you need a resident alien permit, a work permit, and then all the business permits, ASSUMING THE ISLAND IN QUESTION will even give you one.....as an example it's near impossible for a Yank to set up in the BVI nowadays........and then even afterwards, you , as a foreigner, are subject to "less than the rule of law"......."don't like what we're doing? Leave. But leave your business and money behind......."

As an American you should only consider PR or the US Virgin Islands
