He's always been very healthy and has a very good background. He's flinching when you go to pet his face and he turns his head away from you when you try to pet his face. He's also laying down differently and he's not acting like he usually does. He seems much lazier. We ARE taking him to the vet today, but does anyone have an IDEA of what's wrong with him? Please help!

I can assure you no one is beating him, and we've had him since he was old enough to leave his mother. We got him from a family friend. We're pretty sure it's his left eye that's bothering him, but we've looked at his eyes and they seem fine. We're taking him to the vet in a little while, but we don't know what it might be.
Labs have a tendency to get Hip Dyslasia (I don't know how to spell it, so ignore that) but we don't think it's that. He's really not that old and up until now he's always running around, he'd definitely a puppy at heart, but he's been very skittish lately..

Thank you so much for all of your answers! My parents got back from the vet with him a little while ago. He has a punctured eardrum. The vet said he'll be fine but he was in a LOT of pain, which is why he was shying away from us, they said his whole left side of his face was being affected by this. So now he's on painkillers and antibiotics, and he's a little woozy, but he'll be fine! Thanks for all the help!

You certainly sound like someone that cares about her dog!! That is awesome!!
I would otherwise say this..........If a dog is corrected and slapped, nudged, tapped on the face or nose, they will begin to act protective. Anotherwords, if a dog is hit or slapped in the face, they will act shy or pull away from any hand that starts to approach their face. I would think that no one in your home is doing this, but it is one reason why a dog would pull away or turn their head.
Finally, I hope and pray you get the answer to your question from your Vet. And, I pray it's nothing to big where it can't be fixed. Good luck to you now! Urf! =)

I know you're anxious to know what's going on with your dog, but nobody here can really do more than offer guesses. You're doing the right thing by taking him in for an examination. Hang in there, you'll have your answer soon enough.

only the vet will be able to take you. He might have some sort of subcutaneous pain, or a vision problem, or a tumor that is causing him pain. Go to the vet, they will be able to tell, but we really can't diagnose this for you.

It could be that something is either in or wrong with one of his eyes that is making it difficult for him to see or that is very sensitive. Obviously see what the vet says, but if he/she does not automatically do this, ask them to check is eyes and teeth.

I thought it was nothing, but its increasing a lot all the time.... PLEASE...PLEASE TELL ME WHEN YOU FIND OUT WAT IT MAY BE! Thanks! Sorry I couldn't help you, I will do some research and expand this answer if I find anything!

Could be a lot of things. Might even be an abscessed tooth.
Very painful and can make him miserable.

the vet should know. but it sounds like to me that you have a sick dog, or someone did hurt him when you was not around.

Could be a bad tooth or a bite of some kind that you cannot see.
