would a person even try it if you KNOW it is highly addictive? I mean, I have an addictive personality and I do get curious and I smoked pot back in "the day" but I'd be scared to even TRY it. Do you know anyone addicted to it? I know a few addicts (one family member)......and these addictions ruin their lives and lives around them. What kind of high is crack too?

People often do things to escape themselves. We all know methamphetamines are life destroying drugs, but sometimes when folks are feeling self-destructive, they go for it.

I dont think people think about addiction when they use it and then its too late. People use stuff to escape reality, to feel good and often they just dont really think about the consequences to themselves or others at the time. It is a journey that is a tough one for everyone involved. Sometimes all you can do is watch as some struggle thru b/c what you say may not sink in until a person is ready to hear or change.
A very good friend suffered with such a thing & almost lost it all but is doing OK now and realizes its a daily struggle not to use again. But it started very innocently and did not stop until the friend admitted there was a problem, and after numerous interventions. Crack made my friend forget about all current troubles, have energy and just feel good i guess. But then it required more and more just to feel good. Usage cont'd even though almost died, suffered from asthma & had heart problems but didn't care, thats how strong the addiction was.

Crack is horrible and sick thing.
People do it for many reasons, the very same reasons they do other drugs and pot and smoking and th like.
-to be cool (it not though...)
-to get relaxed(yeah, for the 5 min before it kills you)
-curiosity( it killed the cat)
-"everyone else was doing it"( what a nice cliff to jump off of!)
etc...
you get my point. All in all, people do crack and drugs for no good reason and it doesn't look good either, it just human nature that causes us to make the decisions we do and it can only be stopped if we stop it. Also...
A lot of people don't understand the word "addictive". I knwo you think that sounds stupid but its true. "just once" they'll say, but once is all it takes to get addicted. May people dont understand that addiction isn't like when you say you're addicted to your fav. candy. No. Addiction is when you are hooked for good and cant control it. Thats why people start and don't stop. They think they will. They say "heck if I dont like it, Ill stop." But they don't. Spread the word to everyone you know and prevent this from occurring. You could say the same thing about any addictive drug. Tobacco kills more people than alcohol and all the illegal drugs put together, yet kids still smoke.
