People have all these arguments that "prove" god exists. Then they give us info how to convert to their religion.

For arguments sake, let's say science came up with ev idence that the universe had a supernatural origin. How would you then begin to prove that that supernatural origin was your god instead of the Sumerian gods or the Hindu Brahman or any of the other millions of deities that humanity has believed in throughout our history?

Mike and LJ4Bama, my point exactly, how do you prove that? That Jesus is the truth, the way, and the life, or is God almighty. Sure, you can say the Bible, but how do we know the bible is reliable?

If you've accepted one absurdity why not the next?

Supernatural wouldn't necessarily be a god but lets say it was. The only evidence for this would be the god themselves showing up and demonstrating they are capable of creating a universe. Anything less is most likely parlor tricks.

So if the 'god' were present you could just ask...

Well, for sake of argument, it would stand to reason that there would only be one God (or one group of god's if you are so inclined) which created the universe. In much the same way that there would be say, one painter for a painting or one sculptor per sculpture. Now, the nature of the artist would be interpreted through the works of art produced. If I were starting from scratch, then I would conclude certain things and pass down what I learned to my children. There are of course many cultures so there are many perspectives of the Creator so by perspective there would be many different interpretations. Beginning with the creative process then as an artist you may begin to see the nature of God for yourself. The "my god" part is a matter then of perspective meaning the God I recognize or perceive in much the same way that a statue may be perceived differently from different angles yet it is the same statue. From there, you would have to test to see if what you believe is true and because what is true about the world around us, being God's handiwork, would bring to light God's nature. From there, different religions are born based on perspective. Trust, a major factor of faith, then comes into play as to which religion is true or most correct; you should only trust what is true. In this you must look at the core of the religion and not necessarily the followers because followers are not necessarily fluent. I personally am Christian because I have found the teaching of Christ to be profoundly true.

Language. The experience of God is pre-language, any supposed evidence for the existence of God is an after the fact construction. So is language about the experience.

If you are raised in a tradition that says God is an invisible fluffy, horned toad and you experience God then you have every reason in the world to believe God really is an invisible fluffy horned toad. How someone came up with that depiction and understanding in the first place is unknown - could have been a dream, for example. But the exprience is the same. Or, God stays the same through space and time but His name changes.

The Catch-22: without the naming we could not communicate the experience so that others could duplicate it and have it form a basis for spiritual community.

My take on this is the same as evidence that god exists: If there is a god that can be taken on faith only, its actions on and in this world should have left evidence, i.e. if the god caused a world wide flood, we should find a global layer of silt at the same time, potentially with "modern" animal fossils (they might be the end of the ice age animals). If a black rock is said to have been a holy sight since Abraham, I'd expect ancient writers to have made note of it before the 5th century CE.

Religions are created by mans efforts to understand the eternal spiritual laws and self recognition that he feels pushing at his soul; that ability to stand in the middle of your thoughts about what is wrong and what is right, wonder why the two even exist and then chose one.

True Christianity, is the result of your life being worked out with the understanding that we can do nothing to reach God because he has already reached us through Jesus Christ.

As for proving this, as you suggest, you can't.
God must do it or it won't be done.

All the attempts to prove the existence of a god are really a ruse. People making such arguments had the cart before the horse to begin with, and so they can't see the non sequitur.

One can argue and prove by pure logic that for things to exist, an intelligent infinite and eternal entity must be found as th initiator of everything from non exixtence, so since such a being can only be one because of its infinity and simplicity , one can safely call the being his or her personal creator and therefore his or her God.

It normally is in how one is raised, and who they are raised to believe in. They learn only of that god and no others, so really, to them, that is the only one that exists.

They don't need any more proof than that, and expect you to just believe because that's what they did. Little do they know that they are atheists of all other gods who have been proclaimed to have existed.
