I agree. I think it has a lot to do with the competition the cable networks feel with the popularity of reality television.
The History Channel has also lowered it's standards and airs end of the world documentaries and specials about monsters. Give me a break!
I hear you! Give us what we want! Food Network should have cooking shows, not food battles!

I had not heard about Emeril being cancelled and I'm not 100% sure if Mario is leaving or just cutting back. Either way its lose.
It is more for money gimicky shows are cheap to produce and people seem to love them. Also the food network owns like 5 other channels so they could be transfering Emeril and Mario to the Fineliving channel or one of their other ones.

I read that it's because "Emeril Live" has reached a mile stone of being on the air for 10 years, but "The Essence of Emeril" will still be on the air. Frankly, I prefer "Emeril Live" and I wish the news were not true. However, Mr. Lagasse is a very busy man with several restaurants, two small children and his foundation for disadvantaged kids. Maybe he's just got too much on his plate right now.

I personally like Unwrapped.
Yes, Guy is annoying as were most of the people on "The Next Food Network Star". I've noticed one of the loosers has a cooking show on a different network.
The problem is they made these people be stars instead of cooks and now they have to pay them for it. When they focused on the food the shows were all much better.

i admire Giada, Ina Garten and Sandra Lee, Bobby Flay's Throwdown is super, and Iron Chef. My maximum up-to-date fav is the weird and wonderful ingredients tutor and Ace of muffins. My husband is a pastry chef and he loves the food annoying circumstances -surprisingly the marriage muffins, sugar and pastry ones.

they've become entertainment instead of cooking shows! Sad, because I have learned a lot from the shows over the past few years.

I agree, that's why I stopped watching it. I suggest subscribing to a magazine like cook's illustrated instead, and switch the tv off.
