I think it's tacky. You don't throw your own bridal shower and you don't throw your own baby shower. If you don't have a friend who will do it, ask a relative.
It's about as tacky as the "new trend" of listing registries on wedding invitations. People are just so greedy.

not only that but their boyfriends are there too, I have been invited to 4 babyshowers this year and all were thrown by the mom and father of the child together. I find it strange!

It is beyond tacky it is a total social faux pas. Basically what they are saying by doing this is that they have no friends or family who are close enought to them to throw a shower for them. How sad is that?
I do not attend baby or bridal showers thrown by the "honouree". I wait until the event to give a gift.

Yes it's tacky, but they don't know any better. I would decline politely and give them a gift when the baby comes - if I want to.

why? it's their baby why not throw the party. my first was thrown by a friend. i did everything tho, she didn't do sh*t. next time, i'm doing it all....
