My sister had a birthday yesterday and he treated her out to a cirque de solei show. However, she wants to do the same gesture by treating him out to a game when it is his birthday. However, he turned her down flat saying he is busy that day . So, was my sister wrong for returning the gesture?

No, she wasn't wrong. It sounds as if he were rude in the way he turned her down.

Your sister was not wrong at all. It was a polite gesture. I would have done the same thing. And made the same gesture. Though he may be busy on that day and if he really wanted to go he could have arranged for it to happen on another day.

Your sister was not wrong for wanting to return the gesture. However, he may honestly have already committed to plans and not be able to attend the game. Perhaps he wasn't the most considerate when letting her know this, from the way your question was asked. However, your sister has done absolutely nothing wrong. And if he did have previous commitments, it would have been impolite of him to break them in order to go to the game with her.

I'm not sure who "he" is, but there's nothing wrong with trying to return a nice gesture. It's usually not expected when the gesture is for a birthday or occasion like that, but there's nothing wrong with it.

She did nothing wrong. Sounds like she just picked a bad day. Maybe she should check his schedule and pick a game on a day that he's free.

Who is "he"?

Try a different day or event.

He may have something planned or he may be working that day.
