I am a hijab wearing muslima. I have a uniform to abide by at my job for about 8 years now. So I alter my uniform to be islamically ok. I work in security and I do event managing for my job which is around children and education.
My sister works in AIDS awareness for a prominant hospital as a support coordinator for africa. She wears hijab also.
There is a woman I know who works in a pre-school where my kids go and she wears hijab. She is really nice and helps tie islam in there schooling as much as she can. It is not an islam based school.
I see many woman working for the state department where I live wearing hijab and they are all soooooo beautiful.
Thanks for asking.

I wear the hijab everywhere but my work as for islamic women wearing them many of the students I go to school with do and take it off during work. Then again I work in a glass blowing furnance so it is impractical for me to wear it but upon given the coice yes id wear it. And for the record I did a study back in 1999 and again in 2002 and found that about 10% of all islamic women wear the hijab at work both before and after 9/11

I completely understand what you are asking. I wear hijab and work -- I hate my current job but I'm a student and it works around my schedule so I put up with it. i am a sales associate at a store in an airport. I never see hijabi women or teen girls working either -- the only hijabis I see working are doctors or professionals masha'allah. I often wonder if it's because they don't see value in working a lesser job or they choose not to work OR companies don't want to hire them. It's a little sad because on the one hand if we had more women out there working "everyday" jobs we would be more visible and people would learn about islam and Muslims more....but the way it is now is nice too masha'allah because not that many of us want or need to work. :)

Assalaam Alaykum
I wear the hijab and the niqaab. Currently I am working towards becoming a Primary Teacher (Insha'Allah) also working in a Islamic School, and previously I have worked in many different state schools and as a sales persons (yes I accomplished all this by being covered up by the will of Allah (swt)!)
I don't know whether you are trying to say that the women who wear Hijab don't have work?? How about seeing it from a different angle, maybe they don't want to work?? If I had the choice I would stay home and just laze around unfortunately I don't get that choice I need to do my bit for Society (",)
Believe it or not but under all that I am a normal human being like the rest, but with jsut a hint of craziness (",)
EDIT::
I know many Sisters who work in : Admin department, banks, web designers, call centres, shopping markets (",)

I wear hijab and niqab and I do not have a job, because I'm a student/housewife. Once I'm done school Inshallah, we'll see where I want to go.
All of my Muslims friends who wear hijab have good jobs. They are teachers, work at daycares, one of them is in social work, and another one is an interior designer. Wearing hijab should not prevent anyone from being ambitious. We as Muslims have our rights too.

Asalam Alaykum.
I do wear the hijab but I do not work. I have a baby and stay at home with him! All of the women in my family cover but do not work as well. I think that the reason that "most" covered women do not work is due to the mixing of women and men in the workplace which could spark fitnah. And that is why you prob do not see a lot. However, I do not many covered women as friends who do work. I know a hijabie who is a paralegal, I have saw some working at Target, wal-mart, Dr's, professors, almost any business. Its all according to where you live bc in DC Muslim women are everywhere and A LOT cover mashAllah. But here where we live now I am the only Muslimah I see cover. Their are more here but they choose to not cover.
