if you were related to her then I am sure you would know.

Jesus... out of all the people you could be related to, you would think it would be someone noble.

Hi Tara,

This is long and the good stuff is towards the bottom. You'll have to put up with some advice from a geezer first.

People consider all caps to be SHOUTING, and genealogy to be a library. You would not shout in a library, so please don't use all caps in a genealogy board.

Famous people don't generally broadcast their family history, for fear crazed fans will sneak up to their relative's house at night and steal things. How much would you pay for a pink flamingo from Miley Cyrus's cousin's house, for instance?

Second, having the same last name doesn't always mean you are related. If you last name was Carpenter, you might be related to the Carpenter family that is famous and you might not. Many people, inclusing grandfathers, sometime make this mistake. Here is what the name means:

=====================
Cyrus

Polish: possibly from the personal name Cyrus, derived from the Greek form, Kyros, of the name of several kings of Persia. The origin of the name is not known, but in the early Christian period it was associated with Greek kyrios ‘lord’, and borne by various saints, including an Egyptian martyr and a bishop of Carthage.

Possibly an Americanized spelling of the Greek family name Kyros, from the personal name (see 1 above).

Dictionary of American Family Names, Oxford University Press, ISBN 0-19-508137-4
=====================

If your grandfather does genealogy, ask him how you are related. He will know, down to seventh cousin. If he says he doesn't know, forgive him. He or your parents told you about Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny and the Tooth Fairy, too.

There is a whole forum devoted to the Cyrus name. It is at

http://genforum.genealogy.com/cyrus/messages/43.html

The 43rd message there is about Billy Ray, Miley's father. There are MANY follow-ups.

To find out if you are related, you would have to trace your Cyrus ancestors back until you found one who was also Billy Ray's ancestor, or until you found that yours came over from Poland in 1923 and his were here in 1723, which would prove you were not very close. That is usually more work than most teenagers want to do.

If you want to try, write to me via my profile and I'll give you a starting point. Or, click on the top 10 answerers and look at the answers we all gave to people who asked how to trace their family tree.

No one here will do the work for you, but we will show you where the shovels are and give you tips on how to dig.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miley_Cyrus

A good biography of her can be found here. It mentions people back to her paternal grandparents in the article. Toward the bottom is a link you can click that will take you to a biography of her Dad, Billy Ray.
