Something like the one in the movie "Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow".

Maybe....IT is too weird for such an extraordinary man like Steve Fossett to totally disappear. Guess I am a bit weird myself, wonder all the time what happened to him. Saw yesterday his wife is trying to have him declared legally dead.

What have you been smoking?

What do I think? Steve met mother earth at a sufficient speed to render him and his aircraft in to a collection of spare parts. Unless you have been on the ground in Nevada (I was off-roading less than 100 miles south of the Hilton place on the weekend he went missing) it is hard to appreciate how rugged and empty the place is. You can drive for hours on dirt roads and never see anyone, or sign that anyone has passed that way in weeks. One of the canyons I drove through had only had one motorcycle through it since the last rain in April or so. If he had crashed ten yards off the road he'd be completely masked by trees and even from overhead would be almost invisible. I think there are so many places a crumpled plane could be concealed in Nevada (accidentally I mean) that there's little point speculating about exactly where he ended up.

His wife filed to have him declared dead yesterday.

The area of northern Nevada where his plane disappeared has a couple large lakes. My theory is that the reason searchers did find the wreckage is because his plane crashed into one of the lakes (probably Walker Lake) and is under water. What do you think?

His wife has petitioned the courts to declare him legally dead.

No matter what happened to him, I hope he has landed in a better place, with unrestricted airspace and low fuel prices.
