I asked him and I think only the sub is bothering him. It is on the floor and I think the sound is going right through it, what can I place under it to dampen the sound?

Unless you can soundproof the whole room bass will find a way out. Really you should not have a subwoofer if you live in an apartment with someone living below you .You have to think of them also. I know what low frequency notes can do ,they drive you crazy if they get into your room from somewhere else .Go into your neighbours room and listen what your subwoofer is doing then you will see what its like .I bet you won't like it either, because it will be a boomy
irratating rumble. So i would say professionally soundproof the room or don't use the sub. Most of the time a sub. is not needed anyway.Putting the sub on rubber feet etc will not help. The sound waves have to be stopped from going through the floor and walls.

You can place the sub on a small table or put a rubber mat under it.this will dampen the sound through the floor but you should still be able to enjoy your movies. another thing to do would be to adjust the amount of bass signal going to the sub.

there's always a prob with subs because the long wavelength of sound they chuck out will easily penetrate walls floors etc. a paving slab(or two!) under your sub may attenuate it a lil without drastically reducing the bass YOU can hear - sound absorbing materials just won't work on such a long wave - you need to get MASSive!!! but really - as my neighbours can attest to - good deep bass is simply anti-social and the only way to deal with it is to isolate floors and walls from their fixings(which is possible but kinda expensive!)

They sell rubber feet to go on the bottom of the sub to stop it from rattling on hard wood floors. You could try a cheaper solution by placing something with a rubber backing to it under the sub itself. If that doesn't work try turning the volume of your sub down.
