My 3 year old son was watching SpongeBob or some other show and a commercial came on. I wasn't watching it, but I heard, "Who's SEXY lips are these?" I popped my head around the corner and sure enough it was showing a close-up of one of the girls lips from some Nickelodeon show (or maybe it was Disney, I can't recall).

Anyway, since when is Nickelodeon/Disney talking about someone's "SEXY" lips?

These shows are intended for kids and pre-teens! The last thing they need to be encouraging is sexiness.

My kids aren't allowed to watch that channel anymore after the kindergarten shows go off!

A***n G: I recently canceled Noggin. I always forget about PBS. Thanks for the reminder. You can't go wrong with Sesame Street! Sometimes I'm just tempted to throw the t.v. out all together. Its too easy to get addicted to it.

I actually finally watched an episode of SpongeBob a couple days after I saw that commercial thing. OH MY GOODNESS! That's the most annoying, mindless show I've ever seen. It, and other non-sense shows, have been banned. "Learning" shows only from now on, and no more than 2 hours per day! That gives them a Dora, Diego, Backyardagins and Wonder Pets. That's IT! lol

i agree..my son is 4 and he was watching spongebob and on the episode spongebob saw writing on a dumpster and they beeped it out whenever spongebob would say the word......obviosly it was a swear word!!!! why are these cartoons promoting bad language. Isn't it hard enough in this world. Why can't you let your child watch tv without worrying about the scary outside world coming into their innocent minds!!!!!

Good for you! My daughter (just turned 2) watches the playhouse Disney shows in the morning, then we switch over to Sesame St., then the TV is turned off. I always though Nickelodeon was worthless and too....spastic? Flashy? I don't know, but it's not a calm kids channel! Plus all of the commercials for the latest, newest toys are annoying. Disney and PBS have no commercials--instead Disney has little short songs/shows that are really cute and educational. If we need something to watch in the afternoon, I pop in a DVD. Right now she's obsessed with The Wizard of Oz and now says funny old-fashioned sayings like "Oh, my goodness!" and "Lions and tigers and bears--oh, my!" Too funny. :)

I'm pretty sure Nickelodeon makes children stupid. I can't watch 5 minutes of that Spongebob cr@p without feeling like my IQ just dropped 50 points. My son is allowed to watch Nick Jr. for about an hour a day. We mostly watch PBS or I put it on Animal Planet or something just for background noise and we don't really pay attention to it.

Have you ever watched spongebob? I dont find that appropriate for a 3 year old to begin with. Plus get rid of anything with commercials.

We only let our 3 year old watch stuff that keeps him active like the Wiggles or Jacks Big Music Show (noggin) instead of sucked in.

I just read this great book called "Born to Buy: The Commercialized Child and the New Consumer Culture" by Juliet B. Schor. Basically, Nickelodeon and Disney Channel (and, really, any child programming) doesn't even qualify as entertainment OR educational programming anymore; it's all targeted marketing and advertising.

Do yourself and your child a HUGE favor and just get rid of the TV now... before s/he becomes attached to it.

I know what your talking about I have to really watch what my kids are watching these days. My 8 year old likes to watch the teen nick and I just don't think he is old enough for some of the things they say in those shows. Even the TVY7 shows have alittle to much for what I let my kids watch these days. Goes to show you that you have screen everything that your kids watch.
As far as my three year old I only really let him watch Dora, Diego, and Backyardagains, from nickjr. Also the show's on PBS are really nice learning shows for young kids.

"your such a boob" and then they went on like nothing was wrong. i couldn't believe that at least we can change the channel; what is this teaching the little kids that are actors?! I wouldn't even watch this stuff (21yrs old) how can ppl let there tweens and toddlers watch it!!!

I have never felt Nickolodeon or Disney to be good for a toddler. And I still do not allow my 7 year old to watch SpongeBob.
If you have PBS in your area, that is great, esp Arthur.

Remember, sex sells. Sounds like you're making the right decision. Remember, most television shows provide content for "free" but have to pay production and distribution costs. This is funded by you buying the products on commercials.

No such thing as a free lunch.
