A religious charity helped me make connection with a homeless family on the verge of getting back on their feet. I'm so excited that they're excited to get my extra stuff!

MDA--they actually have made a difference in my lifetime

I don't tend to support any "religious" charities per se, but I feel that supporting any worthy cause that helps others also helps me to connect and grow spiritually.

I participate in fundraising walks and events several times a year for the local Humane Society as I am an animal lover, and I have volunteered my time to help with fundraising events for Andrew's Helpful Hands Foundation, which helps the families of kids with leukemia. (I knew Andrew before he lost his battle with leukemia at such a young age, and he was a sweet and generous kid who will forever hold a special place in my heart.)

The rest of my support is usually in the form of donations and are split between various charities throughout the year, usually geared toward helping children. Children, after all, are our future. :)

When I had an income, I had three charities:

Amnesty International, which works to end torture and the death penalty. They help prisoners of conscious -- to get medical attention, to not be tortured, to be released, or even just to give them hope and let them know they aren't forgotten. (Since torture is always wrong, that one speaks to my heart.)

UNHCR: The United Nation's High Commisioner on Refugees which helps war refugees (and helped the tsunami victims a few years back, but their mission statement is specifically war refugees). They establish camps, provide necessities such as food and plastic sheeting for shelter. They help refugees return home when it's safe, and provide stuff to help them restablish their lives: building and cooking materials, seed, and such.

NRDC: Natural Resources Defence Council, an environmental protection group that uses the law and courts to stop environmental destruction.

I would also participate in "The Untied Way" which is a completely informal charity in which you simply give money to people who ask for it. When someone asks you for money, you give them $20. 100% of the money donated goes to the beneficiary, to be applied to self-identified need areas.

I support the local homeless shelter that feeds families and a paralyzed veterans association. I generally avoid religious charities.

and alot of "charity I do is just reaching out and helping someone if I can do so and feel they need it and when I do, I prefer not to get the credit for it...more fun and satisfying that way

I love benevolence funds...I give every week..I have been blessed by the Lord, and I love to share his gifts with others....I do most of my giving through my church, that way, I know that it is not being diverted to other pockets.

Hay Where are all of our brothers and sisters and their giving?
