spread the ground beef in the skillet, turn on the fire to medium. Stir it til it is all grey colored instead of red. Drain off any grease left in the skillet.

Browning beef is nothing more than place the beef into a hot saute pan and letting it turn brown. That is why you put the beef into a hot skillet. The hot pan will carmelize the natural sugars in the meat, which increases the flavor in the finished product. You don't want to completely cook the beef, however, because the beef will finish cooking after you add the rest of the ingredients. If you completely cook the beef at the beginning, you will end up serving Rubber-Helper instead of Hamburger-Helper.

Put the hamburger in a skillet. Turn the burner on med heat. Use a spatula or spoon to break up meat into small pieces. Cook until meat is brown all the way through. Use a strainer/colander to drain the meat then follow the directions of the box to finish your hamburger helper.

Put the ground beef in a skillet over medium to medium high. Start breaking it up with a fork or wooden spoon, and try to keep stirring a bit and flipping the meat bits over so they cook evenly. When it's all good and brown and has fallen apart into little bits, turn off the stove, drain the grease, and follow the box instructions from there.
