he has the runs. The last thing he had was his kibble in chicken broth. But he didn't eat all of it.

The only time he has ever gotten diarreha was eatin Iams or kibbles and bits.but other then that he was fine.
He did have some turkey today and yesterday. I don't know if that is what is causing the diarreha.
His nose is cold. He was very hyper yesterday with just having the runs once.

He is always in the garbage. I had to move the bag of trash to the garage so he wouldn't get into it.

Has he gotten into anything inappropriate? (Garbage, socks, branches, etc.) Have you changed his food recently? New treats? New bones? Has he ingested a large peice of a bone or toy lately?
I want you to collect a sample of his diarrhea and bring it to your vet for a fecal floatation. Our hospital charges $16 and you get the results in less than 10 minutes. That way you can rule out any intestinal parasites.
Alright, fast this boy for 24 hours. No food, no treats, no cookies, no bones, you get the idea. However, offer him plenty of water to keep him hydrated.
Once the 24 hours is done you are going to start with a bland diet. Boil up some chicken and rice ot hamburg and rice (no added seasonings, it is supposed to be bland, trust me, I see everything!). You are going to feed him small, frequent meals of the bland diet until he has a solid stool. One his stool is happy again, you will slowely mix in his normal kibble. Ideally, you want to gradually make the change over 2 weeks.
IF he is still experiencing diarrhea on the band diet or starts up with secondary symptoms (vomiting, lethargy, fever, etc.) you need to call your vet. Even if your boy tests negative for intestional parasites, I would not be surprised if your vet prescribed Metronidazole (Flagyl) to kick everything out of his system and to "bind" him back up. If he does go home with Flagyl do not panic if he doesn't have a bowel movement at all for 3-7 days. Perfectly normal.
I wish you luck!
ADD: Even the simple change of giving him buts of turkey the last few days can cause diarrhea. Fast him, start the bland diet, and let me know how he does.
P.S. Cold, wet, dry, etc. noses do not predict health. That is a myth. We check the color of gums.

Was the food he ate homemade or store bought? Was it possibly some of the food that has been recalled? If it is possible, then take your dog to the vet. You don't want Fido to die from dehydration.
If it is just that your dog's tummy is upset. Then get some ground beef, brown it drain off the fat. Cook some plain white rice and combine the two. Serve the beef/rice mixture a little at a time for a couple of days. Keep the uneaten portion in the fridge in an airtight container so it does not dry out.
Hope your dog gets feeling better soon!

Any diarrhea lasting for more than 24 hrs requires a vet visit.
When my dogs have it, I fast them for 24 hrs (12 hours if they are 6 months or younger). Then I put them on a rice and boiled chicken diet until stools begin looking normal. Then I gradually put them back on kibble.

You need to feed him something that is solid not runny.. and I have been told u can use Pepto-bismol or kaopectate,, but I would first call my vet and give him the size and weight of ur dog..
he will want u to bring the dog in for treatment most likely, but u can do this.....just talk with the nurse ...

My vet has recommended this remedy for my dog when it's happend.
Boil a few cup of rice and fry up some some hamburger.
Drain burger and mix with rice.
Serve this to your pet 1 cup at a time.
This should help with any stomach digestion or
going problems.

Puffed Wheat Cereal seems to help mine. I don't know if it soaks up some of the bad stuff or what, but it seems to help...plus it is very bland. Obviously if it lasts more than a day call your vet.

You need to take the dog to the vet and find out why he has the runs before you can treat it your self.

When my dog has diarreha i make him a pot of plain white rice, let it cool and give it to him. It usually helps. My vet told me this one.
