How do I go about checking my kids' credit? They are too young to have done anything themselves, but I worry that my ex may have used their SS# and ruined their credits. Do I ask about it at their bank? Is there a charge?
I live in WA state, if that makes a difference.

As the others stated, check the credit agencies with the kids' ssn's. If any bank names come up, contact those banks right away and let them know that you suspect your ex of commiting credit card fraud by opening up accounts under your kids' ssn's and that they (I assume) are under 18. That way, the bank can have those accounts closed and start a fraud investigation. You may be required to file a police report if you're willing. I've seen this happen in the past, adn it's sad that the kids credit is ruined before it even has a chance to start.

I just wanted to confirm what everyone else is saying. You should check their credit reports on www.annualcreditreport.com.

You are able to check a credit report from all 3 major reporting bureaus once a year for free. You'll have to pay a small amount to get their actual score, but the report is free. This site is secure and it is safe to give them identification information.

The credit report will list every time someone has tried to apply for credit using that person's name and social security number. For a child, there shouldn't be anything listed.

Childrens credit ratings are the fastest stolen right now because no one thinks to check on their kids credit!!! So CONGRATS to you for doing so! I lived in Seattle when I had my ID stolen and declared bankruptcy, so don't expect a blaze of help from local law enforcement if this happens to you. Personal Experience. Annual Credit Report dot Com is a free sight where you can get a copy of your credit reports and I cannot see why your children wouldn't be included in this.

I have Equifax 3 in 1 credit monitoring now after what I went through and it does cover all members of your family including you for what I think is a reasonable price for enrollment.

My website covers what happened to me and how you can fight back as well as resources to help you if you become a victim of ID theft. You don't want to go through this if you can help it though and believe me, avoid it at all costs!!!!

Don't wait! Check their credit now and read my website, especially if you think your ex might have used their identities or is about to! And if he has, press charges and file a police report too because an ID thief is not always good at keeping this to him or herself and criminal charges can be brought against the victim if someone commits a crime in you or your childrens name!!!!

It will be obvious that an 8 year old cannot commit a bank robbery, for instance, but avoid the hassle of even having a problem like this. I know this sounds extreme, but the people who stole my ID went as far as to burn the rental house they were living in to the ground to avoid detection, much less arrest and prosecution!!!!

All 3 credit reporting bureaus allow you to get a free credit report once a year (they are required to by law). I think all you have to give them is the name, ss#, and address.
