i wonder if all the christians who are staging boycotts against the movie the golded compass, and going on national news networks to promote this boycott realize that they're generating more buzz for this movie than any of the previews. i remember seeing a trailer for this movie and just thinking it was just another kiddy flick that i had no interest in watching. i had no idea it was about promoting atheist until i heard some extreme christian group on fox news talking about how they were going to boycott the movie. now i want to watch it. it's actually becoming one of the most talked about movies of the year. way to go fundies. nothing like a boycott to give a movie some free publicity. if this movie should happen to become number one at the box office, will you be kicking yourselves?

Ha ha ha :) I had the exact same reaction. I saw the preview, and was like "just another fantasy movie for kids." Then I heard all the hoopla the christians were raising because of it. Now not only will I see it, but I will probably go see it the first week it comes out.

It is. I used to sing heavy metal for a living. I was always amazed at how many times the old "piss off the Christians" stunt worked. Bands that really weren't that good would suddenly be the big hot thing just because some Christian group got their panties in a bunch about some Satanic song or thing they did. It still works now. No one would even know who Marilyn Manson was if it weren't for that.

I'm sure Christian leaders understand a lot about propaganda & publicity. I don't think their real goal is to fail the movie, but to demonstrate the numbers of their follower (in other words their voting power). Especially since we're having an election soon!

Well, not really in the context you cite.

But the first photo on the page below wouldn't really have helped promote the company involved.

All the hype makes me want to go see it too. Generally whenever a christian says something is bad that means you don't want to miss it.

They did the same thing with the Da Vinci Code. People who do such things really aren't that smart, are they?

Christians won't go.
Athiests will.
It all narrows down to the numer each group has.
