Because for many years AIDS was considered to be a disease of homosexuals, drug users, and other "degenerates".

Some people still maintain the idiotic notion that AIDS is a form of divine punishment for various sins.

Aids is so controversial because it's the plague of modern times. problem is unlike the plague aids won't just go about from one person to the next and eventually die off because of immunity of a particular person/s.
Aids will be about for as long as people continue to have unprotected sex whether they're hetro or homosexual.
Oh, and HIV/Aids is more common amongst heterosexuals than homosexuals. Gay people got wise to the facts earlier and started to protect themselves. Straight people on the other hand have yet to wake up to the reality of it all.

Years past it was unknown how aids was transmitted. When it was discovered that it was transmitted through sexual intercourse the majority of people with aids were amount the gay population. So the spread of aids was carrying that stigmatization. Then cases of aids being spread in blood transfusion and of course later by multiple use of drug needles. But the original cases were from the homosexual population.....thus the stigma.

And of course, cancer comes with foods, environment and pollution.

I think mostly because of the issue with homosexuals and AIDS. People think that all homosexuals have AIDS which is of course not true, although there is a higher incidence

Think of it like this. You dont have aids right...you are making love with the man/woman of your dreams..bla bla bla...the next thing you know, BOOM, you have aids and you know you all that comes from it. Is it still okay? Are you not gonna be pissed and discusted? Cancer isnt spreadable, AIDS is.
