Since Jesus Christ is suppose to enter the east gate in the 2nd coming?
President Bush read a joint Israeli-Palestinian declaration in which both countries agreed to create a Palestinian state on the ground before Bush leaves office in January 2009.

The declaration did not recognize Israel as a Jewish state in spite of intense negotiations the past few weeks for the Palestinians to agree to such a clause.

Abbas and Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert are to meet biweekly, with implementation of commitments monitored by the U.S., according to the declaration.

After Bush's address, Abbas called for a Palestinian state to be established with its capital in Jerusalem.
He alluded to Palestinian control over the Temple Mount – Judaism's holiest site.

"We need EAST Jerusalem to be our capital and to access our holy shrines," said Abbas

Azal - is the Eastern gate
The Jewish people run to meet Him and enter the city with Jesus

Quite the times we are living in sister! Jerusalem belongs to God, it always has and it always will. It is in Jerusalem where our Lord & Saviour Jesus Christ will return to rule as King of Kings and Lord of Lords! Abbas' is being used, as are all others in these mideast negogiations, to fulfil prophecy. "And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh." (Luke 21:28) God bless you!!!

I think you are reading far too much into this. Perhaps you WANT that to be the reason, but it's far more likely that Abbas is doing what his predessessors have done: make ridiculous proposals in order to force Israel to look inflexible by having to deny them.

I doubt religion had anything to do with it. Probably just another in a long line of Palestinian roadblocks to any peaceful solution. By insisting on something they know Israel won't and shouldn't agree to, they can say it is Israel's fault that there is no solution.
