It is an acient Mayan prophecy that the world will start over again, and only Western science has been able to figure out exactly which year they were talking about (the date is very different by Mayan calander). The idea is that the world has already ended four times already, and this next will be the fifth; I think this time it's to be engulfed in flame.
Don't worry though, the last times this happened hunas all survived, but were changed a LOT, as in became birds or fish or dogs or monkeys. I'm rather wondering what we'll be next. Cheers, mate.

The Mayans do not prophesy that everything will come to an end on 12-21-2012. Rather, this is a time of transition from one World Age into another.
More like the end of the world as WE know it.
It's interesting.

People thought that the world would end at the begining of the new millenium but the world is still here so basically the world isnt going to end in 2012 except for the people that owe a lot of money and have to pay it back by 2012

It isn't an ending but a beginning. Came about with the discovery of the Mayan calendar.

That's when the Mayan calendar ends. I don't know why people are making such a big deal about it. The Mayans believed in a lot of things.

It was the Mayans who predicted it on their calender. It is also when the Mayan calender comes to an end?! They had predicted a lot of other things that have come true. I watched a show on the history channel on it. It was somewhat convincing. I

They are probably wrong so no one needs to worry. This tidbit was just sensationalized to sell papers and give the talk show hosts something to talk about in their monologues.
Don't knock the Mayans, they were an advanced group of people.

Among their other accomplishments, the ancient Mayas invented a calendar of remarkable accuracy and complexity. This calendar ends in 2012....many scientists believe the end of this calendar coincides with a cosmic event--the shifting of the earth's poles--that would bring about "the end of the world".
Hopefully they're wrong...but I recommend living every day like it was your last--just in case.

The Bible teaches that at the end of the world all the wicked will come under eternal punishment in a place called Hell, and this time may be very near. There is much Biblical evidence that points to the fall of 2011 as the end of the world.

And the angel which I saw stand upon the sea and upon the earth lifted up his hand to heaven, And sware by him that liveth for ever and ever, who created heaven, and the things that therein are, and the earth, and the things that therein are, and the sea, and the things which are therein, that there should be TIME NO LONGER:
But in the days of the voice of the seventh angel, when he shall begin to sound, the mystery of God should be finished, as he hath declared to his servants the prophets. Revelation 10:5-7
