Sounds like fuel delivery problem change the fuel as mentioned by the other chap also there is a possibility you could be getting low fuel starvation due the scavenge filter in the tank being blocked ( Had this problem on Pug 206).
With yours being a Keypad model it is not an HDI engine therefore it will NOT have a lift pump in the tank only a scavenge filter .

The glow plugs only help starting from cold. Once the engine is running they don't have any effect, so they are not at fault if the engine cut out whilst driving.

The problem sounds more like a fuel-system issue - it could be a blocked filter or pipe, or a failed distributor pump, or a problem with the solenoid valve that was once connected to the immobiliser keypad. Take it to a diesel injection specialist.

I suggest you change the fuel filter and bleed the system properly.I have one its covered 200000 and has been regularly serviced by me personally and has never let me down.88000 is not a major amount of miles and with a little time and money on simple things like filters it should perform .The awful screeching sound that you mention is probably the drive belt wanting properly adjusted. Also consider replacing the belt as they do wear out. These engines in the right hands can produce amazing mileages.I met an owner who had 300000 with out major problems.Timming belt replacement is crucial to engine longevity.Along with regular servicing and checking of all fluid checks these little engines are amazingly reliable.

owner of a 1.7 uno diesel, its def the glow plugs, i know you got them changed just get them rechecked, while you at it use a diesel treatment, it'll flush the engine out and anything with it. also get the engine tuned and as a habit always warm up any diesel engine before puttin load on it, ie leave it on idle so as not to damage it.
the screeching sound is easily rectified by loosening the bolts where the belt is attached, put in a big screw driver to use as a lever pull the spindle untill the belt is taut and tighten the bolts.

sounds like the electric lift pump in the fuel tank is playing up. it is a common fault with them
