I was totally unaware of this trend amongst our christian youth. This Emo ( Emotional) trend that includes a whole changing of how you dress and deal with your emotions. The music that you listen to and all the cutting that this trend leads to.
HOw do you see this new trend. Personally I find it very demonic and evil and has lead many young people to commit suicide. There is an estimated 2 million emo youth in the US alone
look at this clip if you can and share how you view this kind of lifestyle luring so many of our hurting young people
http://www.yikers.com/video_documentary_of_an_emo_girl_cutting_herself.html
THis Video totally broke my heart
What can we do to help our youths .
Ty for taking the time to post
I hope that this has raised the awareness of all of us as christian parents and workers
IN Christ

I put this post up because I have to young nieces who have been " cutting' and have been following this Emo Trend. Whereas the roots of Emo may have started in one way, today it is very damaging to so many youths.
Moddy I know that not all emo's are cutters.. but the kind of " emo culture" gives more rise to this kind of behavior in a young person.

Tiny you need to see who i addressed this question to specifically. I have witnessed many things in my time being a christian and i do not address this matter in a light fashion at all.

I've seen the Emo Trend take over personally in kid's lives. I thought that one day I would become a part of it because I am such an emotional person. I think it's ssad. I think these kids, like me, have no one to reach out to them who truly understands. My mother tries to reach out to me, but I cant' fully express to her the pain that I'm really going through on a daily basis. for the most of my life, I've been alone and independent. I now have a 10 soon-to-be 11 month old son and I wonder how am I going to take care of him as he gets older. What lifestyle will I give him. Will I be able to give them the things I never had? I don't want him to turn out like me. We always want our kids to be better than us when in realilty, they turn out just like us. The Emo Trend is scary but it's real and understandable.

Wow. This question is at the core of why The Church in the Unites States has lost its way. Most of us are brand conscious, and if you were to ask a Pentecostal how his theology differs from an Assembly of God person, they would have a very difficult time. There are dozens of types of Southern Baptists. Why? At some point we became very concerned about our particular viewpoints, and not our place in the body of Christ. Yes, there are false teachers, and they are to be identified and quarantined. The massive movements toward reconciliation between denominations, racial and ethnic groups in the US is that we are starting to see the impact of the Separatist mentality--"I am of Paul. I am of Apollos." If we are all in Christ, we serve the same Lord and must call The Church to unity IN CHRIST. Outside of Him, The Truth in His Word, there can be no unity. Within His Body, there can be charity and grace to disagree on non-core Biblical doctrines. Unfortunately, you will never get some Catholics to agree that James 2 is in the Bible, nor will you get some Baptists to agree that the Bible does not prohibit consumption of alcohol. Oh, what a force God's people would present if we cared nearly as much about The Kingdom as we do about the carpet in the lobby. I am of Christ--I care not what other labels others may attach. I worship in a local body of believers that is of a denominational label that I do not carry--they are my family and I simply don't care. He is more important to me than the lables. Blessings.

We have a youth group with emos and all we can do is pray and seek Gods wisdom as we work with them one at a time on their level. We are seeing some become solid in their faith and becoming aware of the fact that God wants to use them and they slowly begin a transformation, and then there are those who are not quite sure who they are and drag along for the attention, but that's okay, we have the time and love to wait it out and we'll be there for them when they are ready. The sad thing is the majority of what we see is no parental involvement which leads to experimentation and major identity crisis. Parents reading this....LOVE YOUR CHILDREN WITH YOUR TIME, they need YOU more than fancy clothes and cell phones!

In honestly I find the emo trend in christian children somewhat hypocritical. The basis of the emo revolution is that everything is bleak and dark. The basis of Christianity is that there is light at the end of the tunnel. If the youth within the church are turning toward an emo lifestyle that means that there is questions within their faith that they should address. As with everything else it si most of all a phase and all kids go through phases. I myself had a mullet at one time however gross that was it does not define me as a person now.

This trend has always exsisted. Before emo it was gothic before gothic is was hippis before hippies it was bikers and greasers and before that well.. ..they where called smokers. heh.
The misfits the "approved" counter culture have done well enough to just .. pick a form and become it. I would say for the majority of children and teens who dress this way even less of them "cut" or so anything exstrenuious.. If anything When i was a highschool student I found out that gothic kids were merely.. in most cases fitting into a fashion statement that only cost at much as raiding your mothers makeup cabinet and ruining her stockings for a shirt.
I think if people want to get closer to thier children they should cut themselves out of the euqation and try and understand thier kids. Being thier friend not nessicarily as being thier parent.. thier guardian and listening to them as jesus listens to all of us.. kids might need an un judging ear a little more.
but the trend... will always exsist.

We all know and have known for some time that the end is drawing near. In these times satan is lying more and more to the younger generation to try to keep them from getting to God. Drugs and sex, alcohol and money have worked for a long time, but now this is a new lie. "God help this generation". Video games and TV have raised them and they have no idea how to or where to get to God. All they see is killing, mayhem and lust. It is a terrible time. I have for some time been praying for two girls who have opened their hearts to me about cutting themselves. It is my fervent hope that God will help all of these young people. What did the Bible call the man who was living in the tombs who when Jesus found him he had been cutting himself? A demonic, this terrible thing has to be a evil spirit that comes upon a person. How sad it must be to want to take a razor blade and cut yourself. Always the lier satan also tells them to tell others not to take their razors from them because it will cause them to hurt them selves more if they have to find another. Our poor children how some parents have let them down. Taking the values of te past and trading them in on wealth for the future. But what did they exchange? I'm afraid it was the children. When did we get so far off the path, did it slip up on you? It did me, I had no idea that something like this was going on until my eyes were opened to it when I saw this clip you showed on TV one day. My heart broke for this young woman. God bless you Sandy lets pray for all the ones caught up in this terrible lie.
Edit to Chocolat
It doesn't have to be so, you can break the cycle. It can end with you, give your son all the love you can. Teach him about the Lord and tell him he is important every day. Don't let helplessness take you over and destroy the wonderous joy we can have in Jesus. I felt as a child that I had no one that loved me. With a step father who didn't want me around. But I decided that my child would always know that I loved her, whether I could give her everything she wanted or not, I loved her. Just give him that, and teach him of the Lord, see how things can change.

Emo sucks. The music is crap. If I listened to it as often as these kids did, I'd want to cut myself too. But I really don't think the problem is music but the society in which these children are raised. Obviously music plays a role in that society but the problems that youth face (and have faced and will always face) cannot be pinpointed by just blaming music. Parents are the key, they need to be more involved with their kids and less involved with their professional life.

Neither "demonic" nor "evil". When I was a teen, we had "goths" running around doing almost the exact same thing. And "punks" too. These kids have just kind of rolled the two together. it's nothing new, and the next set of them will have something else.
People had the same fears about Rock and Roll and Rap. Neither was demonic or evil either. Crude and crass, sometimes, but not "demonic".
I'm wondering if somewhere down the line someone will combine cowboys and samurai or something...

your nieces cutting is not due to the EMO trend, it's thier way of dealing with someonething negative, granted not a good way but it's a cry for help. kids who are like that are crying for help. it's not a trend at all. a friend of mine started to becaome that and when i questioned her senseless that's when she told me she was raped.
if you see an EMO or know one, talk to them. it has nothing to do with demons or Satan. it's just their way of dealing with something negative that is going on. try leading them in a more positive direction

Boys, stop crying your makeup is running.
I remember when emo meant something totally different. It was the name we gave to those people who were in the "in crowd" who decided they wanted to be "punk" so they listened to blink 182. Pigtails and cute baby tees with Capri pants was the clothing style. Now its all messed up. I am enraged!
